Visitors

All ordinary visitors (including tourists) are entitled to a free ninety (90) days visit in any period of twelve (12) months from the day of first entry into Zambia while business visitors are entitled to a free thirty (30) days visit in any period of twelve (12) months.

Any person who is legally in Zambia as an ordinary visitor and whose allowed period of stay (as specified in the passport) has expired and who wishes to extend the stay [within the limit of ninety (90) days], should call at the nearest Immigration Office to extend the period of the visit. The extension must be sought before the days expire. If the visitor wishes to remain in Zambia beyond the 90 days, he/she should apply for a Visiting Permit.

ARRIVING IN ZAMBIA

All arriving passengers must have at least six months validity on their passports from the date of entry. The passport must also have at least 3 full blank pages.

All travelers who are not Zambian citizens or residents and require visas to come to Zambia must hold a valid visa to enter Zambia. Depending on the nationalities, visas can be obtained on arrival at the port of entry, at the Zambian Missions Abroad or obtained prior to travelling to Zambia. Anyone, regardless of nationality is now able to apply for a Visa to Zambia.

All Diplomats accredited to Zambia coming on official business should be issued with Gratis Visas at Zambian Missions Abroad or Port of Entry. This includes those Diplomats coming to do business with their respective Embassies/High Commissions.

Diplomats not accredited to Zambia coming on official business should be issued with Gratis Visas at Zambian Missions Abroad or Port of Entry. Diplomats not accredited to Zambia coming on private business should obtain Visa in the normal way and pay the applicable visa fee.

An Employment Permit authorises the holder to enter and re-enter into and to remain within Zambia until the permit expires. However, if it is a first time application and the successful applicant requires a visa to enter Zambia, such a person is still required to apply for a visa to enter the country to collect the permit.

All non-citizens and non- residents arriving in Zambia by air must be in possession of valid return air tickets. Those arriving by land and water must have enough funds for their stay in and departure from Zambia.

Flight crew members on scheduled flight are allowed a maximum of seven (07) days to remain within the nearest town to the airport without undergoing any immigration formalities. Further, crew members on scheduled flights who remain at the airport where the aircraft had stopped or within the confines of the city adjacent thereto, and departs on the same aircraft or on his next regular scheduled flight out of the Republic of Zambia, his crew member license or certificate is accepted in lieu of passport or visa for temporary admission into Zambia.

However, if the crew member wishes to visit any other town other than the nearest town, immigration formalities shall apply.

In the case of Zambia, Transit Visas are issued to nationals who require visas to enter Zambia and are transiting through using land transport and shall be valid for a maximum period of seven (07) days. This implies that travelers transiting through Zambia by Air directly, or those who remain within the precincts of the airport, will not have to appear before an Immigration Officer for immigration formalities.

For delayed flights which may cover over night stops, transit passengers may be issued with a report order by the Immigration Officer allowing them to lodge at a prescribed hotel and report back for departure out of Zambia.

Every other person departing from Zambia, except in direct transit through Zambia by air, having left the precincts of the airport shall appear before an Immigration Officer for immigration formalities, including paying for visas for those requiring visas.

Non Zambian citizens, who are leaving the country permanently, or whose immigration permits have become invalid must surrender the permit to Immigration Officers on exit.

TYPES.

A visa is an endorsement on a valid passport of a foreigner, which is confirmed by examination by an immigration officer at the port of entry, granting that person the authority to enter Zambia.

The validity of the visa is not the period in which the holder is entitled to remain in the country but a period within which the holder has to enter Zambia. As such foreign national are required to use other instruments offered by the Department to remain in the country legally.

Entry Visa

A Single Entry Visa allows the traveler to enter Zambia only once during the validity of the visa.

Entry Visa.

A Double Entry Visa allows the traveller to enter Zambia twice during the validity of the visa.

Multiple Entry Visa

A Multiple Entry Visa allows the traveller to enter Zambia multiple times during the validity of the visa. Multiple Entry Visas shall only be issued by Headquarters through the e-visa facility.

Note: Single, Double and Multiple Entry visas shall be valid for ninety (90) days from the date of first issuance, with the exception of nationals from the United States of America , whose Multiple Entry Visas have a validity of three (3) years, on mutually agreed reciprocal basis.

Tripper

A Day tripper visa is issued at a port of entry [no available on-line] to a tourist who visits Zambia for a period of less than 24 hours and makes exit through the same port. The facility will also apply to tourists visiting Zambia and wish to visit a neighbouring country and re-enter within 24 hours.

Note: Currently, the Day Tripper shall only apply at Victoria Falls and Kazungula Border Controls.

Visa

Is any type of a visa issued at no fee. it may be issued at Zambia Missions Abroad or at Ports of entry to members of the Diplomatic Community on presentation of letters of accreditation and/or Diplomatic Passports. It is also issued to diplomats not accredited to Zambia but visiting Zambia on official business as long as they present letters of invitation.

If you want to move to Zambia, and you are not a Zambian citizen, you will need to get an Immigration Permit.

The type of permit that is appropriate for you depends on your intended length and purpose of stay in Zambia.

Types

The Immigration Department regulates the movement of people through the issuance of visas to persons wishing to visit Zambia, and permits to those wishing to live and work in Zambia as Investors, Expatriates, and Residents.

The Department issues a total of twelve (12) different types of permits, both short term and long term. The spouse and children accompanying the principal permit holder will be issued with individual Digital Permit Cards called Dependants Permits.

A Diplomatic Permit is issued to Ambassadors; Ministers of foreign countries; career diplomats; Consular Officers; representatives of prescribed international organizations; officials and employees of a foreign Government or international organizations recognized by the Government of Zambia; members of the immediate family of the holder of the Diplomatic Permit; and personal/domestic staff of the holder of the Diplomatic Permit.

SEEKERS PERMIT

An Asylum Seeker’s Permit is issued to a person seeking asylum in Zambia and is valid for a period of thirty (30) days from the date of issue. The 30 days given are to allow for refugee status determination.
