Zambia's got some big plans for expanding its network coverage this year. The government aims to construct around 781 new towers, with funding from the 2026 National Budget and the World Bank-backed Digital Zambia Acceleration Project contributing 300 towers. This is part of a larger initiative to address the country's need for 998 additional towers, identified in a 2022 analysis ¹ ² ³.
The government has already made some progress, with 14 towers erected in Central Province, and Airtel Zambia and IHS Zambia collaborating on 152 new telecoms towers, 40 of which are already operational .
