For 43 years, Kalbiye Sağlam cleaned, cooked, and worked in the homes and businesses of Turkish industrialist Niyazi Üzmez — unaware for most of that time that he was her biological father.

The story traces back to the 1950s, when Üzmez, then just 16, got a 21-year-old employee, Ümit Etyüzen, pregnant. She was quickly married off to a factory guard to conceal it, and the child — Kalbiye — grew up believing she was a distant relative of the Üzmez family. As an adult, widowed with two children, she returned to work in their household, spending decades as their housekeeper.

In 2022, over a meal at a restaurant, Üzmez finally told her the truth. He died later that year, at 88, before the paternity case she filed was resolved. DNA was taken from his body in the morgue and, later, from his mother's exhumed remains. The result: a 99.9% match.

A Turkish court has since registered Kalbiye as Üzmez's fourth legal child, making her an heir to an estate worth roughly 1 billion Turkish lira — two brick factories and 30 properties.
