MEET THE SPEAKER
Vickson Ncube is a Zambian finance and strategy professional whose career spans business consulting, strategic leadership, general management, internal audit and finance. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and a Fellow of the Zambia Institute of Certified Accountants, and holds a Zambia Diploma in Accountancy. He currently serves as Board Chairman of ZESCO Limited, Zambia's vertically integrated electricity utility.
He identifies as an African who travels on a Zambian passport and is a committed believer in the African Renaissance, viewing the African Union's Agenda 2063 vision of an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa as the surest route to it. He also regards the Fourth Industrial Revolution as an enabler rather than a disrupter, to be embraced rather than feared. His guiding philosophy is that imperfection in action beats perfection in inaction.

● Strategy and vision — a reader of integrative thinking who looks for solutions drawn from the strengths of competing alternatives, and who builds risk management and contingency planning into his proposals, treating risk as a source of opportunity.

● Leading change — favours joint strategic sessions and critical review of units and functions, on the conviction that sustainable transformation depends on genuine buy-in from the people involved.

Continental institution building
Much of his energy has gone into institution building across the continent. He served on the steering committees that established several pan-African bodies, including the African Professionalisation Initiative, the Africa Association of Accountants General and the Africa Integrated Reporting Council. He continues on the API programme steering committee and as an AIRC member, and has served as an observer on the Board of the International Federation of Accountants.
National service in Zambia
He was part of the Government team on the joint technical working group with cooperating partners that designed and implemented the PEMFA reform programme, task manager for the Public Service Capacity Building Project, and a member of the Financial Sector Development Plan steering committee. At the Zambia State Insurance Corporation he led management in union negotiations and chaired the appeals committee. He has also chaired a football team and served as Secretary for the Association of Zambians Living in Kenya.
