ARTISANAL GOLD MINERS GET TRAINING

The government has started training more than 90 cooperatives of artisanal and small-scale miners who recently received offer letters to conduct gold mining in Kikonge area of Mufumbwe and Dengwe area of Kasempa.

The training follows the issuance of 90 offer letters as part of the government's ongoing efforts to formalize artisanal and small-scale gold mining across the country.

North-Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Luckson Mulumbi, says the cooperatives will be issued mining licenses upon successfully completing the 20-day training programme.

Mr. Mulumbi says the government will not tolerate illegal mining.

He says the mining sector must play a significant role in national economic development.

Speaking during the official launch of the training in Mufumbwe, Mr. Mulumbi also announced that the government will establish structured markets to ensure that gold mined in the two districts is sold at fair prices.

And Mufumbwe Member Of Parliament, Elliott Kamondo says the training will help reduce accidents and fatalities in mining areas.
