SHORTEN YOUR TIME OF JOB SEARCH
Searching for a job may take time, it is a period that can be frustrating, exhausting, and resource-draining sometimes. But here are a few tips to shorten the process.

1. REGULARLY CHECK WEBSITES
such as GoZambiaJobs, allJobsZambia etc, check out newspapers also, this will expose you to job openings and may have a chance to land one as opposed to seeing one post in 5months.

2. REFERRALS:
Tell key people especially those in places you like that you're available and interested in a job role in case of an opening. Remind them here and then (it works). Most jobs are given through referrals and if you're not good at networking and maintaining relationships, you should start making adjustments. If your behaviour is questionable, consider making adjustments. Be referable.

3. BUILD A CREDIBLE LinkedIn PROFILE. LinkedIn will connect you to professionals and industry people. It is also designed to hook you up with the hiring manager and give you insights on job search criteria and interview skills among other things.

4. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PRO-LOOKING CV OR RESUME. With content structured to represent you well in terms of your perceived capacity and competence.

5. IMPROVE YOUR INTERVIEW SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

6. KEEP PRAYING: God makes a way. Believe that He has given you a job and not that He just can. Have faith.

These steps make a difference than not doing them at all.

SHOULD WE CONTINUE SUBMITTING COVER LETTERS?
Here is my take regarding the debate going on.
Cover letters help contextualise your Application package: are you applying for a Job or just an industrial attachment? Is there a specific position you're applying for?

Also, for filing purposes. Cover letters help companies have a specific folder for categorised positions, thereby enhancing quick accessibility wherever needed.

𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘦: Electronically submitted applications such as Applicant Tracking System (ATS), Online Application and email may require a different digital filing system by use of e.g 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 (email) as the means to caption the subject matter.

Okay, yes, it's very important to desire to pe*****te through a company whichever way you can, because when you are in the system, it might be easier to climb the ladder.

Due to that, you might want to apply first as per your profession but still want to give room to work as a general worker for the reason stated above and also looking at the scarcity of employment or labour demand.

Here is the mistake to avoid as you apply with these intentions in mind.

1. Don't apply using the same application package (cover letter, resume or CV and other related documents) for both as a general worker and as your profession. E.g
...
Lusaka-Zambia

Dear Sir/Madam

REF: A͟P͟P͟L͟I͟C͟A͟T͟I͟O͟N͟ F͟O͟R͟ E͟M͟P͟L͟O͟Y͟M͟E͟N͟T͟ A͟S͟ A͟ R͟E͟C͟E͟P͟T͟I͟O͟N͟I͟S͟T͟ O͟R͟ G͟E͟N͟E͟R͟A͟L͟ W͟O͟R͟K͟E͟R͟

Don't write like this, instead, write two separate application packages one referenced as a Receptionist and another as a General worker and drop them.

Both application letters will be seen and that's the advantage but they will be filled differently according to the position applied for and again that's an advantage because your presence will be everywhere. You know that: familiarity brings acceptability.

Remember, that you are to give the best first impression to the company you're applying to through an outstanding cover letter, curriculum vitae and other related documents and that's exactly what we are here to do for you.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗘𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗣𝗘 𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗬𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔 𝗝𝗢𝗕
Want to stand out? Then you must go an extra mile in your application strategy.
First, let's understand that hiring managers or HRs receive lots of envelopes of different sizes and thicknesses; hence, for them to be more efficient and save time, they use experience gained to achieve efficiency and brevity.

This experience involves first judging your application package at face value which involves the size of the envelope and the thickness.

So now, when they look at your small envelope, what do they think...what can it mean? Remember, your goal is to make sure that your envelope is picked and opened then read.

1. 𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗘𝗥: Those who apply for general worker position usually use small evelopes.

2. 𝗟𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦: usually, the less qualified or those with only secondary education use the small envelopes, this means if you have papers and use the small envelope, it may be ignored that is if qualified people are the ones being looked for. Or if you want your application package to be opened but have only secondary education qualifications, then better enclose it in a bigger envelope. The goal is for your application package to be picked, opened and read.

If the employer is looking for a general worker, it's fine to use a small envelope because eventually they know which envelope to pick.

In apocalypse, a small envelope shows that you're less qualified, are applying as a general worker, have less experience or academic qualifications shown by the thickness of the envelope containing a cover letter, G9 or G12 results and NRC or 1 paged CV. Job Application packages of people with huge field experience and qualifications have a unique size containing relevant documents. So why not take advantage of a bigger envelope?

𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗨𝗠 𝗩𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗘 𝘝𝘚 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗘
These two words are usually used interchangeably.
This therefore affects or mistakes how each is prepared and presented, which may affect your first impression and image.
In brevity observance, I want to help out clear the air so that you can understand what you will be giving us to do to make your CV or Resume standout.

𝖠 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘶𝘮 𝘝𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘦 is a Latin word that means: 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦.
Therefore it is a document that expresses the profile of an individual, education (standard and tertiary education), career, job experience, Skills and hobbies among other features.

A CV can be used as a multi-purpose document regarding fields, industries or positions. It helps the reader or hiring manager determine your relevance at the company or organisation due to the wide information and details it expresses; that is if the applied-for position isn't vacant.
Usually, it is one or more pages. It is used for both random and specific applications and also for those people who only have skills and a bunch of assorted work experiences of interindustry and fields.

Meanwhile, a 𝘙é𝘴𝘶𝘮é is a French word that means: 𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘺.
I call this one a single-purpose CV; Because the resume summarises and concentrates on your profile (personal details), accomplishments, work experience, and skills with less regard to education background(unless if one is a new graduate with less experience), why is it so?

A resume is prepared by those who want to apply for a specific position, industry, organisation or company. Therefore, the content must be relevant to the job, position, industry or company one intends to apply to. For example, if you want to apply as a medical doctor, it will mean that the experiences, accomplishments, skills and education included must be related to medical 'doctorism'(wow; doctorism) because that's what the HR or company is searching for. The same applies if you're applying as an HR or sales manager or receptionist etc.

Mostly, people who can use a resume are those with qualifications or a form of trade and rarely accommodate our friends with a 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘳 reference.

Therefore, a resume is strictly one paged.
And at the end of the day, it's good to have both, one to be used for random applications (CV) and the other on a specific position of your career (Resume) especially those that are advertised accompanied by a good cover letter.

When we make you a CV, it's not just about the modern design, but also the content and structure that stands out to land you a job quickly. The same applies to the cover letter and resume.
