What is fish feeding ?

This is the process of administering a balanced and high nutrious foods to fish for the purpose of survival and growth.

What are the best feeding strategies?

1. Always prepare a feeding schedule for your fish.
2. Ensure all your Feeders and yourself ( owner) understand feeding behaviour to avoid over feeding , wasting of feeds or understand feeding fish.
3. Feed fish with the right size of particle. If this is not adhered to, your fish is likely to face non-uniform growth of your fish
4. Always train your fish on the feeding time and positions
5. Always change feed size gradually to allow fish easily transition from one size of feed to another.
6. Keep records of both uneaten feeds and eaten feeds.
7. Don't feed your fish when it's not interested or ready to eat.
8. Don't feed your fish when water quality is poor. Try by all means to clean the water first and feed your fish.

9. Keep your feeds always in a good storage to avoid it getting bad or contaminated.

10. Always observe feeding responses and Adaptability to a particular feed type.

Note: Fish Feeders should always understand fish feeding behaviour _responses.

What is Best Management practice in Aquaculture?

1. Sourcing out of fingerlings from a reputable or certified fingerlings suppliers. Good quality fingerlings is equivalent to good quality fish product

2. Good feeding practice: Follow correct feeding schedules, don't overfeed your fish, feed fish based on response (where applicable), don't under feed you fish, feed your fish with high quality feed from reputable suppliers,

3. Good water quality management: Apply good biosecurity measures to reduce fish disease risk or fish deaths. It it important that fish parameters such as Oxygen ,turbidity, alkalinity are in standard form. Fish water environment should always be clean for fish optimal growth and survival.

4. Know your target markets of your fish product before venturing into fish business. Who, where,why when,what? It is important to carryout a market survey of the products you want to supply before proceeding.

5. Consider adding value to your product to enable you adjust on your prices a bit high ,hence maximizing profits. E.g Fish salting , smoking ,etc
