Fellow Citizens,
At the 2022 Mining Indaba, we shared our vision for Zambia's mining sector. Today at the 2026 Indaba we returned with results.
We inherited a sector in difficulty. We have been planting the seeds of reform. Over $12 billion in new investment has followed. Kansanshi, Lumwana, Mopani, KCM — all back on track. Copper production rose 12% for 2024 and another 8% for 2025.
But we are not stopping there. Our target is 3 million tonnes within a decade. Our geological survey is opening up new exploration areas. New investors are entering Zambia. We are building the infrastructure and institutions to make it happen.
For every Zambian, more mining means more jobs, more revenue for schools and clinics, and more opportunities for local businesses.
Zambia is open, stable, and committed to finishing what we started. The seeds are sprouting and the harvest is coming.
Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia.
