TODAY IN HISTORY :20 years ago on Friday, April 9, 2004, President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa's 77-year-old mother Ms Mirriam Mokola passed away at Millpark Clinic in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Ms Mokola was evacuated to South Africa for medical treatment of severe burns she sustained on Monday, March 29, 2004 when the minibus she boarded in Masaiti caught fire in Ndola after it stopped for refueling.

The conductor of the bus and a two-year-old child were also burnt in the fire after the conductor spilled fuel.

The driver and the conductor were arrested and charged with negligence for carrying inflammable substance on a public service vehicle.

SIDE NOTE : After this incident Government issued a directive to all public service bus owners to order passengers to disembark while refueling.
