In a statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba said Archbishop Banda has been charged with Possession of Property reasonably believed to have been unlawfully obtained, contrary to Section 319 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Dr. Banda, on dates unknown but between April 22, 2021 and December 27, 2023, allegedly had in his possession a blue Toyota Hilux registration number ALF 7734, property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority.

The DEC said the vehicle forms part of a wider investigation involving approximately 22 ZRA motor vehicles alleged to have been improperly disposed of.

The Commission said Dr. Banda is scheduled to appear before court today, and that the public will be updated on the outcome of the court process as and when it will be lawful to do so.

The DEC urged citizens to refrain from issuing or circulating inflammatory statements regarding the matter in order to promote public peace, law and order.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to discharging its mandate to investigate and prosecute financial crimes through lawful and evidence-based processes.

ZIMBABWE SIGNS $66.8 MILLION DEAL TO UPGRADE CHIRUNDU BORDER

Zimbabwe has finalized a funding agreement with private partners to overhaul the Chirundu border crossing, cutting shipping delays along a key Southern African trade route.

Chirundu connects the Zambian and Congolese copperbelts to sea ports in South Africa and Mozambique. Trucks carrying copper, cobalt, fuel, equipment, and fertilizers routinely face bottleneck delays at the post.

To resolve these delays, Zimbabwe partnered with the Chirundu Border Consortium under a 20 year private concession valued at $66.8 million by Cabinet. The project will upgrade border infrastructure and introduce digital processing systems to accelerate customs clearance.

Inaugurated in 2009 as Africa's first one stop border post, Chirundu allowed truckers to clear import and export documents in a single facility. However, rising trade volumes quickly overwhelmed capacity. The overhaul restores efficiency through automated inspections and expanded transit lanes.

Good morning Zambia, listen to this. Democracy is not insulting the head of state. Democracy is not grabbing power by force. Democracy is not breaking the law with impunity. Democracy is not just wanting governance to be one-sided. Democracy is not rooting out public resources with impunity. Democracy is not using your passport to scandalize your own country. To those who think democracy should favor the opposition, they are getting it wrong.

Respect where you are coming from
🙏🙏 ZAMBIA is our country.

26-YEAR-OLD WOMAN OF KAZUNGULA COMMITS SU***DE IN POLICE CELLS.

A 26-year-old woman has allegedly committed su***de while in police custody at Kazungula Police Station in Southern Province.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo says Milimo Mpongo of Makalanguzu Village in Kazungula District was found hanging in the female cells between 07:00 and 08:00 hours yesterday, August 28, 2026.

Ms. Mpongo was detained alone in connection with four theft complaints.

Mr. Namalongo says on August 27, 2026, between 14:00 and 16:00 hours, Ms. Mpongo allegedly visited four different Airtel Money businesses in Kazungula District and requested transactions ranging from one thousand to three thousand four hundred kwacha to be deposited into her mobile money number.

He says it is alleged that after the transactions, she would open a small black laptop bag she was carrying and claim that she had forgotten the money at home before leaving the respective premises.

Mr. Namalongo says following the complaints, Ms. Mpongo was apprehended and placed in police custody.

He says officers on duty spoke to her at around 07:00 hours yesterday and found her alive, but she was later discovered hanging in the female cells using the chitenge material she was wearing, which had been tied to a window burglar bar.

Mr. Namalongo says Police informed the deceased’s relatives, after which the body was untied in the presence of a relative and taken to Kazungula General Hospital, where she was certified dead.

ZAMBIA’s Judiciary has confirmed that no petition challenging the presidential election result was filed within the constitutional deadline.

https://www.facebook.com/100064560977290/posts/1538319364996748/

In a letter dated Aug. 25 to the Secretary to the Cabinet, Chief Administrator Nalishebo Imataa said the Constitutional Court Registry had not received any petition by 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24.

The seven-day window to file a petition opened after the Electoral Commission of Zambia declared Hakainde Hichilema president-elect between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Citing Article 101(4) and Article 103(1) of the Constitution, as amended by Act No. 2 of 2016, and Order 17 Rule 1 of the Constitutional Court Rules, Imataa said a person may petition the court within seven days of the declaration to nullify an election.

Under Order 17 Rule 8, the registry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for such petitions.

"Following the 2026 Presidential elections and the declaration of Mr. Hakainde Hichilema as President-elect... no petition had been filed in the Constitutional Court Registry as at 18:00 hours yesterday, 24th August, 2026," the letter stated.

The confirmation clears the way for Hichilema’s swearing-in, which the Cabinet Office has scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1, in accordance with Article 105 of the Constitution.
