Corporate Governance appreciation in Africa is growing stronger and stronger. This is evident by the huge number of participants who came from Southern, Eastern, Western and Central parts of Africa to attend the 45th edition of the African Corporate Governance Conference and Workshop at the Southern Sun Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, from Tuesday 17th March, 2026.

Among the participants were Board Members, CEOs, Company Secretaries from the private and public sectors ( including SoEs or State Owned Enterprises, sometimes referred to as Parastatals ).

Non Governmental Organisations ( NGOs ), Representatives of Universities, different educational institutions and just individual business entrepreneurs were all there.

During the Conference, I was privileged to be Conference Chairperson coordinating the international Speakers, who gave interactive presentations on a variety of topics that are current and topical in Corporate Governance.

Prof. Mayvin King, the international Corporate Governance guru was one of the Speakers at the Conference.

Because of the huge number of participants, the official Group Photos were taken country by country. In each picture below, I am seated in the centre and Prof. King is on my right.

On Friday, 20th March 2026, I was Facilitator for the Workshop on a topic very relevant to the discussions which had taken place in the Conference. Pictures were taken of each Workshop Group and I am in the middle of such picture.

Clearly the 45th African Corporate Governance Conference and Workshop provided a great opportunity to all participants to network during the gathering and thereafter.

Corporate Governance Training specifically designed for Company Secretaries, is a course prepared by the Institute of Directors in Tanzania ( IoDT ) for those who are employed in organisations to ensure that the principles of Corporate Governance are adhered to routinely in such organisations.

The IoDT brought together 20 participants, drawn from public and private sectors from all over Tanzania ( both mainland Tanganyika and the Island of Zanzibar ) for Training held at Palace Hotel, in Arusha, Tanzania from Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th March, 2026.

I was the Lead Facilitator for the Training dubbed the 36 Board Secretary Course ( BSC ).

Corporate Governance Training under the auspices of the Institute of Directors in Tanzania ( IoDT ) was organised in Arusha, Tanzania at the Gran Melia Hotel styled 71 Certificate in Directorship Course ( CiDir ) attended by 126 participants drawn from the public and private sectors of the Tanzanian economy. Others came from NGOs, trade unions, Universities, Colleges, institutions of higher learning and some individuals.

The Training took place from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th March, 2026.

I was privileged to be the Lead Facilitator.

Group Photos were taken in 4 sessions to allow for the large number of participants, as well as some, during the class discussions.

In the Group Photos I am seated in the middle of each picture while the CEO of the IoDT, Mr. Saidi Kambi, is seated to my right.

Corporate Governance Induction just has to close the year 2025, so the Board and Senior Management of the Bridging Gap Solutions ( BGS ), decided that a Half Day Training in the essential elements of Corporate Governance, must be given to the to the Team on Tuesday 30th December, 2025 at Hotel Intercontinental in Lusaka.

This was done !

The honour and privilege was accorded to me to be the Facilitator for the Induction.

To ensure that the occasion is duly recorded for posterity a Group Photo was taken of all the Participants. The Chairperson of BGS, Mr Benkele James Haachitwe is seated on my immediate left and the CEO, Dr Hon Julius Zgambo is seated third from the right, in the Group Photo.

Corporate Governance Induction had to done in order to wind down 2025 ! This is what the newly constituted Board of the Rural Electrification Authority ( REA ) did in a Two Day Training Programme, during which, the Board and Senior Management were taken through some key elements of Corporate Governance, at the Protea Hotel, KKIA on Tuesday and Wednesday, 16th and 17th December, 2025.

I was privileged to be the Facilitator for the Training.

A Group Picture was taken of the Participants and the Chairperson of REA, Mr. Charles Mboma, is standing on my immediate right while the Acting CEO, Mr. Alex Mbumba is standing on his immediate right.

At the end of the Induction Certificates of Participation were awarded to each participant and individual pictures were taken of the recipients.

Corporate Governance Training was held by the Institute of Directors in Tanzania ( IoDT ) for Company Secretaries, sometimes called Board Secretaries and in other institutions referred to as Chartered Secretaries. In other jurisdictions these professionals have been titled as Bank Secretaries.

What is important is that the individuals who occupy such key positions in any organisation are the ones who real are the Gate Keepers of Corporate Governance in such organisation. They are the ones who ensure that the organisation they serve follows the fine dictates of the practices of Corporate Governance. They are the Advisers to the Board on Corporate Governance. Yes, they are administratively accountable to the CEO, but they are a functionary to the Board. These and many similar issues were explored and discussed among the the 12 participants who attended the Training from Tuesday 25th November to Friday 28th November, 2025 at Adden Palace Hotel, in Mwanza, Tanzania.

I was honoured and privileged to be the main Facilitator for the duration of the Training.

Corporate Governance Training in Mwanza, Tanzania under the auspices of the Institute of Directors in Tanzania ( IoDT ) was held at the iconic Malaika Beach Hotel on the banks of Lake Victoria, from Monday to Friday 24th to 28th November, 2025 during which more than participants took part. There were Board Chairpersons, CEOs of Private Companies and SoEs or Parastatals, NGOs, Universities and Institutions of Higher Learning and Family organisations.

For 5 days various aspects of Corporate Governance were taught, analysed while the participants networked and exchanged views on the future of Corporate Governance in Tanzania.

This year marked the 13th year since I began being a Facilitator from 2012 in Bagamoyo on the Indian Ocean, in Arusha, in Moshi and in Zanzibar. On this particular occasion I was Facilitator on the first day.

Because of the numbers, 4 Group Pictures were taken and I was honoured and privileged to sit in the middle of each of the pictures.

Corporate Governance with the Zambia Institute Advanced Legal Education ( ZIALE ) in Livingstone !

From Wednesday,19th to Friday 21st November, 2025, ZIALE hosted a Corporate Governance Training at the David Livingstone Hotel, in Livingstone. The Facilitators were Mrs. Miriam Chiyaba and I. The Trainees came from a variety of institutions, organisations, government ministries, the private sector and SoEs or the public sector. There was a lot interactive discussions among the participants, during the entire Three Day Retreat.

The Training was officially opened by the ZIALE Director, Mr Fabian Mayondi, and a Group Photo taken. On the Third Day, ZIALE gave each participant a beautiful T-shirt with a ZIALE logo. Another Group Photo was taken.

Corporate Governance Conference and Workshop, the 44th Edition, was held in the iconic city of Cape Town, in South Africa, organised by and under the umbrella of Advantage Training headed by Ms. Andrea Henriques, from Tuesday 4th to Thursday 6th November and Post-conference Workshop on Friday 7th November, 2025.

The number of participants who gathered and the collection of Organisations they represented felt like it was the largest grouping of individuals I have had the privilege to work with as Chairperson in the Conference and Facilitator in the Workshop.

The participants came as Board Members, Chairpersons, CEOs, Company Secretaries, Researchers, Academics, Private Companies, Banks and Financial institutions, Parastatals, SoEs, NGOs, Trade Unions, College and Students of Higher Learning Institutions, Traditional Rulers, Administrators, and those interested in the development and growth of Corporate Governance in Africa.

The interactive discussions throughout the Conference and Workshop clearly stimulated the interests from all the corners of Africa.

The relevance of all the topics and the abilities exhibited by the Speakers to provoke and sustain discussions throughout, was a marvel to watch !

One of the greatest authorities on Corporate Governance in the world, Prof Mervyn King, topped the list of Speakers.

I was privileged to be the Chairperson for the Three Day International Conference and I was the Facilitator for the One Day Post-Conference Workshop.

Because there were so many attendees, several Group Photos were taken, per country with Prof King, Prof. Oliver Saasa, one of Facilitators and I.

After Certificates of Participation were given at the close of the Workshop, other Group Photos were taken with Ms Henriques and I.

Corporate Governance Training for one individual ?

This is not an everyday matter. There is usually a Team of the Board of Directors together with Senior Management who are gathered for a Training Programme.

The original plan was for our Facilitators to meet the Board and Senior Management of INDENI ENERGY COMPANY LIMITED in a Two Day Training Programme, and we did, on Thursday and Friday, 16th and 17th October, 2025 at the David Livingstone Hotel, in Livingstone.

However the CEO, Mr. Evans Mauta, went on an important assignment out of the country. He couldn't therefore be present during the Training. We had to arrange for his Training on Friday 14th November, 2025.

My colleague, Mr Danny Luswili, was was with me when we did the Training for Mr. Mauta. A Certificate of Participation was awarded to him at the end and there is a picture to attest to it below.
