Congratulations to His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election.

From the track in Glasgow to a WAFCON final.

Asimenye Simwaka is doing something we rarely get to see at this level of sport.

Just days ago, she was representing Malawi at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, competing in the 200m and 400m. From there, she travelled to Morocco, changed the spikes for football boots and joined the Scorchers during their WAFCON campaign.

Now, Malawi are in the WAFCON final.

Think about that for a moment.

Two sports. Two major international competitions. One athlete representing her country at the highest level in both.

In an era where athletes are often encouraged to specialise early, Simwaka's journey is a reminder that sporting talent does not always have to fit neatly into one box.

She is one of the rare athletes actively balancing elite track and field with international football — and that alone deserves to be celebrated.

But there is something even bigger happening here.

Malawi's women are making history, and Simwaka's story is part of it.

From Glasgow to Morocco. From the starting blocks to the football pitch.

Some opportunities stay with you long after the final whistle.

As the dust settles on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, we would like to celebrate our Founder, Just Phelix, who was part of Commonwealth Sport's Games-time Media and Communications Team during the Games.

For Felix, being in Glasgow carried a little more meaning than simply adding another major event to his career.

It was an opportunity to contribute behind the scenes at one of the world’s biggest multi-sport competitions, connect with people from across the Commonwealth, and share his experiences with interns who were also part of the Games-time environment.

Throughout his career, Felix has always believed in the importance of learning, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities for others. Being able to sit down with young professionals from across the Commonwealth and share lessons from his own journey was one of the highlights of his time in Glasgow.

From Zambia to the global sporting stage, the journey has been built on curiosity, dedication, and a commitment to contributing to sport beyond the field of play.

We are proud to see our Founder continue to represent the values that drive Tunta Sports + Entertainment - using sport to tell stories, create connections, and inspire the next generation.

Where others fell short, she kicked down the door,

Top Sports Moments of the Year 2024 | By Felix Munyika

At Number 6: Chipolopolo’s AFCON Comeback

Kicking off our countdown at number 6 is the Chipolopolo Boys’ remarkable return to the continental football stage as they qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), held in 2024 in Ivory Coast.

After missing the previous three editions, Zambia’s comeback was marked by an impressive qualification run, including a commanding 3-0 victory over hosts Ivory Coast in Ndola. This run reignited hopes and set the nation abuzz with excitement for the team’s performance at AFCON.

When the long-awaited day arrived, Zambia, placed in Group F, faced DR Congo in their opening match. Like many football-loving Zambians, we thought this game would be a walkover—especially after Kings Kangwa’s stunning goal in the 23rd minute. But, as we quickly learned, this was the AFCON, where every game is a battle. The match ended in a dramatic 1-1 draw, with Yoane “The Tormentor” Wissa (yes, I coined that nickname!) delivering a wake-up call for the Chipolopolo.

Next up was a clash with Tanzania—a game many were confident Zambia would win after their spirited performance in the opener. However, things took a turn early, with Taifa Stars’ fan favorite Simon Msuva scoring in the 11th minute. To make matters worse, Chipolopolo veteran Rodrick Kabwe (fondly known as "Cisse" by those who watched him play at Chifubu Grounds in Ndola) was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

The match was tough to watch, but just when hope seemed lost, Patson Daka reminded us why he plays in the English Premier League. His 88th-minute equalizer salvaged a 1-1 draw, but it was clear that victory at AFCON wouldn’t come easy.

Facing African heavyweights Morocco in the final group game, many fans—myself included—were simply hoping for a respectable result. And boy, did the Chipolopolo deliver! It was a thrilling encounter where Zambia matched Morocco stride for stride. Despite a valiant effort, the boys lost 1-0 to a goal by Hakim Ziyech. It was a defeat, but one that showed heart, grit, and determination.

17th January 2024 stands as a day of national pride, marking Zambia’s official return to the AFCON stage after a nine-year absence. While their campaign ended earlier than hoped, the team redeemed themselves by securing qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. This time, the Chipolopolo Boys have promised a stronger and more determined approach.

Just like that, we’ve said goodbye to 2024. What an incredible year it was—filled with memorable experiences, learning opportunities, and life-changing decisions.
