This morning, I had the privilege of representing Peza Job Zambia a powerful SME Sensitization Event at AGORA Village (Africa Works).

The event was hosted by CNC360 Consulting Limited in partnership with the Entrepreneurial Financial Centre (EFC) under the theme:

“Ignite Your Access to Finance through Networking and Collaborations.”

It was a high-impact session focused on practical pathways for SMEs to access finance — not just theory, but real conversations around strategy, structure, positioning, and collaboration.

One statement that truly stood out for me from one of the speakers was:

“Be economical with your time.”

That statement hit differently.

Time is one of the greatest assets we have.

You can lose money and gain it back.
You can lose opportunities and create new ones.
But once time is gone, it is gone forever.

As entrepreneurs and professionals, time is capital.

How you spend your time determines:

• The growth of your business
• The strength of your network
• Your access to finance
• The results you produce

That is why you must:

Be intentional with you spend your time with.
Be strategic with your collaborations.
Invest your time wisely.
Spend it on things that grow you.
Focus on income-generating and value-creating activities.
Protect your time from distractions.
Use it to build what truly matters.

Money can be recovered.
Time cannot.

Be economical with your time.

Stand Up and Stand Out

Griffins Mandanda

It’s not enough to just stand up. You need to stand out.

In today’s world, many people are standing up. They have degrees. They attend interviews. They start businesses. They create content. They apply for opportunities. They show up.

But showing up alone is no longer enough.

Standing up means you are present.
Standing out means you are different.

Standing up says, “I am here.”
Standing out says, “You will remember me.”

In a competitive environment — whether in school, in business, or in the job market — average effort produces average results. If ten people have the same qualification, what makes you the one who gets chosen? If many businesses offer the same service, why should customers choose yours?

The answer is value and distinction.

You stand out through preparation.
You stand out through excellence.
You stand out through attitude.
You stand out through consistency.

Sometimes it is not even about being the most talented person in the room. It is about being the most disciplined, the most reliable, the most solutions-oriented, and the most willing to go the extra mile.

Standing out requires intention. It means developing skills beyond the basics. It means communicating clearly. It means dressing professionally. It means building character, not just a CV. It means understanding that your personal brand speaks before you do.

Anyone can stand up when opportunity calls. But those who stand out are the ones who get remembered, recommended, and rewarded.

So do not settle for visibility without impact.
Do not be comfortable with simply being present.

Stand up — yes.
But more importantly, stand out.

Sometimes What Feels Like a Setback Is Actually a Reset

Griffins Mandanda

Life does not always move in a straight line. Sometimes doors close. Plans collapse. Opportunities slip away. You apply and do not get the job. You prepare and still fail. You invest time and emotions, and things still do not work out.

In those moments, it feels like you are going backwards.

But what if you are not going backwards — what if you are being repositioned?

A setback forces you to pause. And in that pause, you begin to reflect. You review your decisions. You reassess your goals. You rethink your strategy. You start asking better questions.

Was that path really aligned with my purpose?
Was I growing or just surviving?
Was I chasing comfort instead of calling?

Sometimes we move so fast that we do not realize we are heading in the wrong direction. A setback interrupts us. It resets our priorities. It humbles us. It refocuses us.

A failed interview can reset your preparation level.
A business loss can reset your strategy.
A broken relationship can reset your standards.
A delay can reset your timing.

Resets are not punishments. They are adjustments.

Think about it: when a phone or computer freezes, you reset it — not because it is useless, but because it needs to function better. In the same way, life sometimes resets you to help you operate at a higher level.

The discomfort of a setback often carries the clarity of a new beginning.

So instead of asking, “Why did this happen to me?” try asking, “What is this preparing me for?”

Sometimes what feels like a setback is actually a reset — an opportunity to realign, rebuild, and return stronger, wiser, and more intentional than before.

Sometimes the Pain You Feel Becomes the Power You Need

Griffins Mandanda

Pain is uncomfortable. No one prays for it. No one plans for it. Yet, at some point in life, we all experience it — rejection, failure, disappointment, loss, betrayal, or frustration.

In the moment, pain feels like a setback. It feels heavy. It feels unfair. It makes you question your strength and sometimes even your purpose.

But pain has a strange way of shaping people.

Pain stretches you.
Pain humbles you.
Pain wakes you up.

The very situation that made you cry may be the same situation that forces you to grow. The rejection that embarrassed you may push you to improve. The mistake you regret may teach you wisdom that success never could.

Pain introduces you to parts of yourself you never knew existed — resilience, courage, discipline, patience, and faith.

Many strong people were not born strong. They became strong because they had to survive something. They turned their wounds into wisdom. They turned their struggles into strategy. They turned their disappointment into determination.

Pain can either break you or build you. The difference is in how you respond.

When you choose to learn from it instead of running from it, pain becomes fuel. It becomes motivation. It becomes clarity. It becomes the reason you refuse to settle. It becomes the fire that pushes you to work harder, dream bigger, and move smarter.

One day, what once hurt you will empower you. What once weakened you will strengthen you. What once made you doubt yourself will become the story that inspires someone else.

Sometimes the pain you feel becomes the power you need, not to stay the same, but to rise stronger than before.

Sometimes a Heartbreak Leads to a Breakthrough

Griffins Mandanda

Sometimes a heartbreak leads to a breakthrough.

When something or someone we value deeply disappoints us, leaves us, or fails us, it feels like everything is falling apart. Plans change. Emotions overflow. Confidence drops. We question ourselves. We question our worth. We question our direction.

But what if that heartbreak is not the end of your story?

Heartbreak has a way of revealing truths we were avoiding. It forces us to pause. To reflect. To re-evaluate. It shows us where we ignored red flags, where we overgave, where we stayed too long, or where we settled for less than we deserved.

Pain, though uncomfortable, is a teacher.

A broken relationship can teach you boundaries.
A failed opportunity can teach you preparation.
A rejection can teach you redirection.
A betrayal can teach you discernment.

Sometimes what breaks you is the very thing that builds you.

Many people only discover their strength after they have been stretched. Many people only find their purpose after something falls apart. That job you lost pushes you to start the business. That rejection pushes you to upgrade your skills. That disappointment pushes you to grow in ways comfort never could.

Heartbreak clears space.

It removes what no longer aligns with your future. It humbles you. It refines you. It prepares you.

And one day, you look back and realize — if that had not happened, you would not be who you are today.

So if you are in a season of heartbreak, do not rush the process. Feel it. Learn from it. Grow through it. But do not let it define you.

Sometimes a heartbreak leads to a breakthrough and the breakthrough is a stronger, wiser, more focused version of you.
