We have all been generally heavily affected by the drought this year and the impact it has had on hydroelectric generation. ZESCO has largely borne (rightly so in many instances), the brunt of our anger and frustration. I find crises however to be a great opportunity for a rebirth. Japan and Europe took off after being devasted during the second world war. We are in awe of the 'Rwanda miracle' today but just a couple of decades ago, Rwanda was on fire. We also know individuals that are stronger and more resilient after suffering what appeared to be a terrible tragedy like the loss of a child or spouse.
In short, there is a silver lining to all this - if we are willing to learn as a people. Zambia should reinvert itself if we are to change. The drought has offered us a great (albeit painful) opportunity. I suspect that next year and beyond, we'll be more resilient. Most solutions are within us. We can if we believe that we can.
