When you invoice any VAT withholding Agent, you are going to be paid 84 percent of your invoice value. The 16 percent will by paid to the Zambia Revenue Authority by the VAT withholding Agent. In your own books that 16 percent will remain outstanding. For users of any accounting system such as Pastel or Navision or even quick books, the double entry is you credit that customer account the VAT amount and Debit The VAT Control. For pastel users you need to create 9990/002 which will be a universal customer account for moving journals between the Customer Accounts and the VAT Control.
