The Enhancing SME Sustainability Reporting and Business Practices in Africa – Zambia Workshop hosted by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in partnership with Wiggle Ventures, with support from Sida, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka.

The workshop brought together SMEs, business leaders, and sustainability practitioners to strengthen understanding of sustainability reporting and responsible business practices aligned with the GRI Standards. Discussions focused on the evolving ESG reporting landscape, transparency, materiality, and the growing importance of sustainability reporting in improving competitiveness and access to global value chains.

The interactive sessions and breakout discussions provided valuable practical insights on integrating sustainability into business operations while advancing inclusive and responsible economic growth in Zambia and across Africa.

Today, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Africa, in partnership with Wiggle Ventures and supported by Sida, successfully hosted the Reporting on Impacts, Risks and Opportunities Roundtable Dialogue at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders from government, regulatory institutions, the private sector, investors, and civil society to strengthen dialogue around ESG reporting, transparency, and sustainable mining practices in Zambia.

We were honoured to have Mr. Nicholas Kabaso, Chief Executive Officer of Lusaka Securities Exchange Plc a keynote speaker and panel participant at the training. Mr. Kabaso contributed to the session themed “From Data to Decisions” — a moderated discussion exploring practical steps for companies and investors in advancing transparency, sustainability disclosure, and responsible business practices.

The session explored:
• Investor expectations on ESG performance and impact reporting
• Advancing sustainability disclosure and good governance in Zambia
• Reporting economic, labour, and tax impacts through the GRI Standards
• Findings from the Zambia Baseline Study on labour impacts and tax transparency
• Strengthening sector-wide capacity for consistent and effective reporting practices

The dialogue highlighted the important role that transparency, accountability, and globally aligned reporting frameworks play in supporting sustainable development and responsible mining practices in Zambia.

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), in partnership with Wiggle Ventures and with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), successfully convened the Regulator Roundtable on Responsible Mining today at Radisson Blu Hotel, Lusaka.

The dialogue brought together key regulators and stakeholders from the mining, environmental and governance sectors to examine Zambia’s current ESG regulatory landscape. Discussions focused on regulatory mapping, identifying fragmentation across oversight institutions, strengthening voluntary sustainability mandates, and exploring the feasibility of a more harmonized national framework that integrates environmental, social and governance pillars into mining supervision.

Participants also reflected on Zambia’s leadership in EITI compliance and how enhanced impact disclosure and alignment with global reporting standards can further improve transparency, investor confidence and sustainable development outcomes.

We sincerely appreciate the valuable insights shared and the strong collective commitment demonstrated toward advancing responsible, transparent and sustainable mining practices in Zambia.

We are proud to share the successful delivery of the SME Sustainability Reporting and Business Practices Training Workshop held on Wednesday, 18th March 2026 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Lusaka.

Wiggle Ventures in partnership with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and supported by Sida, brought together SMEs from diverse sectors for a powerful and timely conversation on sustainability, ESG reporting, and global competitiveness.

The session highlighted a critical shift—sustainability reporting is no longer optional, but a key driver of market access and long-term business growth. It was inspiring to see such strong engagement from Zambian SMEs committed to aligning with global standards and building resilient, future-ready businesses.
