This program offers free, high‑quality training in intellectual property — covering trademarks, patents, copyright, traditional knowledge, and the foundations of IP that every creator, innovator, entrepreneur, and researcher should know.

Delivered fully online and available in English, French, and Arabic, the course is designed to equip Africans with practical IP skills that strengthen innovation, protect ideas, and open doors to global opportunities. Participants also receive an official WIPO certificate upon completion.

Community in Action: IP Hub at Lusaka Girls Secondary School

Our UNILUS Chapter team spent the day at Lusaka Girls Secondary School introducing over 40 pupils to the basics of intellectual property patents, copyrights, and trademarks using examples they could relate to from music, stories, brands, and inventions.

The girls were engaged, curious, and full of great questions. A quick quiz at the end showed just how much they learned, with prizes for the top three scorers.

Empowering young creators is at the heart of what we do and we’re excited to keep expanding this outreach across Zambia.

Africa’s Freedom Day celebrates independence. But without ownership of ideas, creators stay dependent.

Intellectual property is that ownership.
Copyright protects music, films, books. Trademarks protect brands. Patents protect inventions. Geographical indications protect products tied to a place, like Zambian honey or Chitenge patterns.

The gap: many African creators don’t register their work. Fees, legal costs, and slow processes get in the way. So when work gets copied or sold abroad, the revenue and credit go elsewhere.

IP is an asset. A registered trademark raises business value. A copyrighted song earns royalties. A patent attracts investors. For Zambia, PACRA and ARIPO make local and regional filing possible, but too much value still leaks out.

Start here:
Document your work from day one. Register at least one right that fits. Use collective management orgs for royalties. Get legal advice before you sign deals.

Freedom isn’t just political. For creators, it’s control over what you make.

Every idea can be molded into gold. Protect it.

Rise, innovators.
