CLIVE GILBERT NYIRENDA: REDEFINING ZAMBIAN THEATRE

Award-winning actor, playwright, director, and creative visionary Clive Gilbert Nyirenda continues to rise as one of the most influential voices in contemporary African theatre. Known for his bold storytelling and transformative productions, Clive has become a driving force in shaping the future of Zambian performing arts.

A two-time National Theatre Awards winner for Best Script (2024/25) and a three-time Ngoma Award nominee for Best Script and Director, Clive’s work has earned recognition for its emotional depth, cultural relevance, and powerful storytelling. His productions continue to challenge audiences, spark dialogue, and elevate Zambian theatre onto larger platforms.

Among his most celebrated works is the critically acclaimed and award-winning production The Lumpa Uprising: A Saint Sent At The Wrong Time, successfully staged at Lusaka Playhouse, where it received praise for its historical depth and bold ex*****on.

Audiences can now look forward to his highly anticipated production Mother of the Year, showing on 27th June at Lusaka Playhouse at 19:00hrs. Tickets are available at K150 Ordinary and K250 VIP.

Looking ahead, Clive’s bold new production H2WAR, produced by Africa Directions, is expected to premiere at the prestigious NATAAZ Festival in 2026.
