Why Many Projects Fail Before Implementation Even Begins

In consulting and development work, one hard truth stands out: many projects fail long before ex*****on starts. The problem is rarely funding or technical capacity — it is usually weak foundations during the planning stage.

Here are some common reasons projects collapse before implementation:

• Unclear Problem Definition
Projects sometimes respond to symptoms instead of the real problem. When the core issue is misunderstood, even well-funded initiatives struggle to deliver results.

• Lack of Stakeholder Alignment
If government, private sector, communities, and implementing partners are not aligned early, resistance and delays become inevitable.

AnChiCon Limited in partnership with WaterAid Zambia was carrying out a baseline study for Strengthening Wholistic and Inclusive Systems for Health (SWISH) WASH in Health project (Phase 1) from Wednesday 27th January, 2026 to Thursday 28th January, 2026. This project was carried out in Kazungula and Monze districts of Southern Province. The baseline study was carried out in twelve (12) healthcare facilities which mainly focused on the way health workers in the healthcare facilities maintain WASH services and hygiene in their daily lives.

The Ministry of Agriculture, GIZ and AnChiCon had their kick off meeting for the Second National Agriculture Policy (SNAP) review and development of a new National Agriculture Policy (NAP) on Wednesday 21st January 2026, which marked the formal commencement of the assignment. This is aimed at strengthening and transforming Zambia's agriculture sector through an inclusive, evidence-based approach.

Africa faces a major infrastructure financing gap, and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are increasingly seen as a key solution. The article shows how PPPs help mobilise private capital, share risk, and deliver critical projects in transport, energy and water, especially as public budgets remain constrained. Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are long-term agreements where government works with private companies to deliver infrastructure like roads, energy, water, health facilities, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The private sector brings financing, expertise, and efficiency, while the government provides oversight.

• Thousands of jobs for Zambians
• Better quality roads for 20+ years
• Reduced transport costs for businesses
