Every successful project follows a lifecycle.

From initiation to closure, each phase plays a critical role in ensuring projects deliver real impact, not just activities.

Organisations that understand the project lifecycle are better able to:
● Plan effectively
● Manage risks
● Track results
● Deliver sustainable outcomes

Because successful projects are not about doing more work, they are about delivering meaningful change.

INCLUSION AS A DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

Inclusion is often discussed as a social objective. In reality, it is a powerful development strategy.

Economies grow stronger and more resilient when more people are able to participate in and benefit from development. When women, youth, rural communities, small businesses, and persons with disabilities are included in economic systems, countries unlock new productivity, innovation, and market opportunities.

Inclusive development strengthens outcomes in several ways:

• Expanding economic participation – When barriers to finance, education, and markets are reduced, more people can contribute to economic growth.
• Improving project effectiveness – Infrastructure, policy, and development programs designed with diverse users in mind deliver greater impact.
• Reducing inequality and instability – Inclusive growth promotes social cohesion and strengthens trust in institutions.
• Driving sustainable development – Development that benefits broader populations is more resilient and long-lasting.

For governments, development partners, and investors, the message is clear: inclusion is not an add-on, it is a strategic pathway to sustainable development.

At AnChiCon Limited, we integrate gender, inclusion, and equitable development principles into policy advisory, project design, and program implementation to ensure that development solutions create impact for everyone.

Why Many Projects Fail Before Implementation Even Begins

In consulting and development work, one hard truth stands out: many projects fail long before ex*****on starts. The problem is rarely funding or technical capacity — it is usually weak foundations during the planning stage.

Here are some common reasons projects collapse before implementation:

• Unclear Problem Definition
Projects sometimes respond to symptoms instead of the real problem. When the core issue is misunderstood, even well-funded initiatives struggle to deliver results.

• Lack of Stakeholder Alignment
If government, private sector, communities, and implementing partners are not aligned early, resistance and delays become inevitable.

• Poor Project Design and Planning
Unrealistic timelines, undefined roles, and weak risk analysis create projects that look good on paper but are impossible to execute.

• Absence of Evidence and Data
Projects designed without baseline assessments or reliable data often fail to measure impact or justify investment decisions.

• Weak Governance Structures
Without clear decision-making frameworks, accountability systems, and reporting mechanisms, projects lose direction before launch.

• Ignoring Sustainability from the Start
Many initiatives focus on starting strong rather than lasting long. Sustainability should be built into design — not added later.

The Lesson:
Successful projects are not saved during implementation; they are built correctly during conception and planning.

At AnChiCon Limited, we believe strong project planning, governance, and stakeholder engagement are what transform ideas into impactful and sustainable results.

What do you think causes projects to fail before implementation begins?

Key Lessons from Consulting in Cross-Sector Partnerships

After working across public, private, and community spaces, one thing is clear:
the hardest problems cannot be solved in silos.

True development happens when:
✔️ Incentives align
✔️ Governance is strong
✔️ Communities are co-creators
✔️ Data drives decisions
✔️ Trust becomes the foundation

Cross-sector work is not easy but it is essential.

AFRICA CONSTRUCTION FINANACE: HOW PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS (PPPs) ARE FUNDING MAJOR PROJECTS

Africa faces a major infrastructure financing gap, and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are increasingly seen as a key solution. The article shows how PPPs help mobilise private capital, share risk, and deliver critical projects in transport, energy and water, especially as public budgets remain constrained. Despite challenges such as weak project preparation, regulatory issues and affordability concerns, PPPs are positioned as a vital tool for closing Africa’s infrastructure gap and supporting sustainable, inclusive economic growth. Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are long-term agreements where government works with private companies to deliver infrastructure like roads, energy, water, health facilities, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The private sector brings financing, expertise, and efficiency, while the government provides oversight.

Why PPPs matter:
• Infrastructure continues despite fiscal limits
• Thousands of jobs for Zambians
• Better quality roads for 20+ years
• Reduced transport costs for businesses

PPPs are not free money as Government's commitments must be carefully managed. With strong planning, transparency, and monitoring, PPPs can complement public investment and accelerate Zambia’s development.
