ZITHS Governing Council sets to rebrand

The Zambia Institute for Tourism Hospitality Studies (ZITHS) Governing Council is on K10 million campaign to rebrand for Faculty development, iron out legacy issues and improve the financial situation of the institution.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Governing Council led by the Chairperson Mulemwa Moongwa yesterday, Tourism Permanent Secretary Evans Muhanga expressed happiness that the team has a clear plan to turn things around in positive a trajectory and that the team seems to know what they want to achieve.

He said Government would support efforts of the council bearing in mind that approach is clearly defined, the team show how to best support the self-sufficiency, the training needs and Government sees how to loop in and get the best out of the initiative.

Mr. Muhanga called on the council to check their ambition in line with Government’s transformation agenda.

He said there is need to take stock of the alumni students, by knowing where they go after leaving the school so that it is ascertained if graduates are having a fair share of the industrial cake when they leave the college.

And Moongwa said to turn around the institution, the council is working to To expand and upgrade infrastructure and facilities at the institute in order to create a learning environment that will simulate the industry our students
and graduates work in.

She said to improve student Student Placement & Employability, the council is working at improving relevant Industry exposure and qualifications.

Ms Moongwa said in line with revision of the curriculum, the council is working at recruitment of part-time lecturers from Industry who would be expected to undergo teaching methodology

The chairperson said it is also time for Faculty Exchange Programmes to allow students travel abroad to see have international standard experience.

Meanwhile ZITHS And Council Member Jason Mulaisho the team is working at changing the perception that the school is for students who have failed to find places in competitive Universities and College.

Minister Unveils New museums Board

Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba has unveiled a six-member National Museums Board with to repealing the Museums Act. of 1966.

Speaking when he inaugurated the board in Lusaka this morning, the Minister said one of the assignments the board should vigorously pursue is the amendment of the national museums act which very old.

He called on the board to address the problem of brain drain, a trend he said needed to be addressed in consultation with the emoluments commission to return specialized staff in museums.

The Livingstone Lawmaker expressed said he is aware of the challenges of transport and logistics faced due to the current poor state of transport in the board inhibiting the efficient carrying out of its mandate.

And Tourism Permanent Secretary Evans Muhanga said the Government is working hard to ensure that grants to the Museums are delivered on time to avoid bottlenecks.

He called for industrial harmony between the board and management of the National Museums in the country.

Meanwhile, the Newly appointed Board Chairperson Alexander Mutali said the Board has noted the challenges that the board is currently facing which are inhibiting its meaningful contribution to heritage preservation, national and economic development.

He said the Board is confident that the team of the board members that have been assembled will work in collaboration with Government and other stakeholders, the board will endeavor to put in place measures that will enable the it resolves some of the highlighted challenges.

The new board is led by Alexander Mutali from Livingstone Lodges Association as Chairperson, Glancario Gasi from University of Zambia Allied Workers’ Union, Peter Shula from the Zambia Institute of Mass Communications and Victor Inambwae from the Tourism Council of Zambia.
Others are Thomas Mubita from the Ministry of Tourism and Kutemba Fwoloshi from National Health Insurance Management Authority.

MANDA HILL APPLAUDED BY CHITOTELA

Government has commended Manda Hill Mall Management for its contribution to national tourism.
Minister of Tourism and Arts Ronald Chitotela said that Manda hill mall has contributed to the Zambian retail and tourism industry when he graced the 20th Anniversary of the mall, describing it as the first mall that has brought so much pride to the nation.
Therefore He has encouraged the local tenants to continue with efforts of putting in great work to grow a great brand such as Manda hill which is often used as a reference; many malls have a lot to learn from it.
He said for the last 20 years the mall has contributed to Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product.
He said the mall has been home to many businesses that have out rightly contributed to providing employment to the Zambian population.
The Minister agreed with the saying that, ‘you have not been to Lusaka if you have not been to Manda Hill.
He said foreign visitors have this echoed to them when they arrive in Zambia, and hence the has in time become a tourist attraction.
