Computer Forensics Engineer Work Schedule: Full Time
Salary: $73,920 - $136,771
Location: Washington, DC metropolitan area
Computer Forensics Engineers in the Directorate of Science and Technology (DS&T) perform triage or examination on electronic media to quickly assess and prioritize the intelligence value of computer based electronic media (e.g., hard drives, CDs). In these positions candidates examine configuration files, system files, and registry information from operating systems, user created documents, network routing and content information; and recover and evaluate files for intelligence value.
Computer Forensic Engineers utilize a variety of assessment tools and operating systems to examine and/or process the contents of electronic computer based media. Additionally, they research new computer and/or data security tools and applications, and analyze how they are utilized. Other duties include developing and implementing methodologies and tools to process and analyze data; keeping abreast of the latest technologies and digital forensics prevailing practices; and recommending and implementing the required practices, technologies and processes to improve efficiency and enhance productivity. Candidates will be responsible for developing strategic assessments about trends, usage, and threats based on trends. These assessments are key in educating the Intelligence Community on cyber profiles and threats. Additionally they leverage existing intelligence information and reports in performing day-to-day duties and in developing new methodologies.
Minimum Requirements: Candidates should have five years in the area of Computer Security, Computer Forensics, Computer Investigations or a related technical field. Candidates should also possess:
Working knowledge of theories, principles, and practices in various technical/computer science/computer engineering fields or equivalent;
Working knowledge of media types, multiple operating systems, and multiple file systems;
Working knowledge of programming languages;
Working Knowledge of Internet and Internetworking technologies (e.g. firewalls, intrusion detection systems, computer security tools etc.);
Working knowledge of encryption systems;
Working knowledge in intelligence analysis and production;
Working knowledge of operational tradecraft, security and counterintelligence;
Ability to work securely using tradecraft skills;
Ability to read, translate, and analyze data in a foreign language.
