VACANCY: VETERINARIAN (SENIOR AGRI-OPERATIONS ROLE)

Location: East Africa

A reputable and growth-oriented organization operating within the dairy, livestock, and agro-industrial sector is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and experienced Veterinarian. This is a strategic senior operational role, designed for a professional of exceptional calibre capable of ensuring animal health, welfare, productivity, and compliance across farm and production operations.
This appointment is intended for a well-qualified, technically proficient, and professionally mature veterinarian who can provide both strategic guidance and operational oversight within a complex agricultural environment.

Role Purpose

The Veterinarian will provide comprehensive animal health leadership, ensuring optimal health, welfare, and productivity of livestock across dairy, feedlot, and integrated farm operations. The role requires hands-on expertise, strong analytical skills, and strategic insight to prevent and manage animal diseases, enhance herd performance, and safeguard product quality from farm to processing. The Veterinarian will serve as a key advisor to farm management and senior leadership, contributing to decisions on biosecurity, herd health programs, productivity improvement, and operational compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Health & Welfare

• Develop, implement, and monitor herd health programs, including vaccination, disease prevention, nutrition, and reproductive management
• Diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and other health issues in dairy cows, feedlot animals, and other livestock
• Provide guidance on animal welfare best practices, ensuring compliance with national regulations and international standards
• Oversee routine health checks, disease surveillance, and veterinary inspections
• Conduct post-mortem examinations and laboratory investigations to determine causes of disease or mortality
Biosecurity & Disease Management
• Establish and enforce biosecurity protocols to prevent introduction and spread of infectious diseases
• Develop risk-based disease monitoring programs and outbreak response plans
• Advise management on quarantine procedures, animal movement, and farm sanitation practices
• Maintain accurate records of herd health, disease incidence, and interventions

Production & Productivity Support

• Collaborate with farm management to optimize herd performance, fertility, and milk production
• Provide expert input on nutrition, breeding programs, and herd replacement strategies
• Monitor productivity metrics and develop actionable recommendations for improvement
• Support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for operational efficiency

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Ensure compliance with local veterinary regulations, animal health laws, and dairy/food safety standards
• Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to ensure milk and meat products meet regulatory and export requirements
• Support audits, inspections, and certification processes related to animal health, welfare, and farm operations
Leadership & Capacity Building
• Lead and mentor farm animal health staff, including para-veterinarians, farm supervisors, and animal attendants
• Promote a culture of discipline, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the livestock and veterinary teams
• Provide training on animal health, welfare, biosecurity, and herd management practices
• Act as a strategic advisor to farm management and senior leadership on all veterinary and livestock-related matters

Candidate Profile (Senior-Level – Non-Negotiable)

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree; advanced qualifications in dairy or herd health management will be an advantage
• Minimum of 8 years’ progressive experience in livestock management, dairy herd health, or agro-industrial veterinary services
• Proven experience in large-scale dairy, feedlot, or integrated farm operations
• Strong knowledge of disease prevention, vaccination programs, reproductive management, nutrition, and biosecurity
• Practical experience with animal health records, monitoring systems, and herd performance metrics
• Excellent command of spoken and written English with strong reporting and documentation skills
• Highly professional, presentable, and confident in executive and operational engagements
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work in high-pressure operational environments.

Senior Position: Dairy Processing, Feed Mill & Farm Operations
ISO 22000 / FSSC 22000

Location: East Africa
A leading organization operating across dairy processing, feed manufacturing, and integrated farm operations invites applications from exceptionally qualified, experienced, and high-calibre professionals for the position of Quality Assurance.
This is a strategic executive-level appointment intended for a Quality Assurance leader of the highest professional standing one with the technical depth, governance capability, and leadership maturity to manage quality, food safety, and compliance across complex, multi-site agro-industrial operations.

Role Purpose

Quality Assurance will provide enterprise-wide leadership and oversight of all Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and Compliance functions, ensuring that dairy products, animal feed, raw materials, and farm operations consistently meet:

• ISO 22000 / FSSC 22000 standards
• National and international regulatory requirements
• Export-market specifications and customer quality expectations

Strategic Quality & Food Safety Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and continuously improve a fully integrated Quality Assurance and Food Safety Management System aligned with ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 requirements
• Ensure end-to-end quality control across farm operations, feed mills, dairy processing plants, storage facilities, and distribution channels
• Establish and enforce HACCP plans, prerequisite programs (PRPs), and risk-based controls for dairy and feed operations
• Oversee quality assurance for raw milk intake, feed formulation, feed production, veterinary inputs, processing, packaging, and finished goods
• Ensure traceability, recall readiness, allergen control, and biosecurity measures are fully implemented and tested
• Lead certification, surveillance, and re-certification audits for ISO 22000, FSSC 22000
• Develop and control quality manuals, SOPs, specifications, work instructions, and records management systems
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing non-conformities, waste, losses, and quality risks
Dairy, Feed Mill & Farm-Specific Oversight
• Ensure quality and safety of raw milk collection, chilling, processing, and packaging
• Oversee feed mill quality systems, including ingredient sourcing, formulation accuracy, contamination prevention, and finished feed safety
• Monitor quality compliance in farm inputs including animal health products, breeding materials, and nutritional supplements
• Ensure compliance with animal welfare, biosecurity, and hygiene standards across farm operations
• Collaborate closely with Veterinary, Production, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations teams to ensure quality is embedded at every stage

Governance, Compliance & Export Readiness

• Act as the organization’s principal authority on food safety, quality governance, and regulatory compliance
• Ensure readiness for inspections by regulators, certification bodies, export authorities, and key customers
• Maintain strong document control, data integrity, deviation management, and CAPA systems
• Identify, assess, and mitigate food safety and quality risks, including contamination, supply chain vulnerabilities, and process failures
• Ensure ethical, transparent, and compliant quality practices across all sites
Candidate Profile
• Bachelor’s degree in food science, Food Technology, Quality Management, Chemistry, Biology, Veterinary Science, or Engineering
• Master’s Degree and/or professional certification in Quality Management or Food Safety is a strong advantage
• Minimum of 8–10 years’ progressive experience in Quality Assurance or Food Safety
• At least 5 years in a senior QA leadership or head-of-function role
• Proven hands-on experience in dairy processing, feed mills, food manufacturing, or agro-industrial environments
• Demonstrated expertise in ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, HACCP, GMP, audits, and export-market compliance
• Strong understanding of farm-to-fork / feed-to-food quality systems
• Excellent written and spoken English, capable of producing technical documentation and executive-level reports
• Highly professional, confident, and credible at executive, regulatory, and customer level
