CONMEN ALERT: BEWARE OF FRAUDSTERS MASQUERADING AS TAX OFFICERS
It has come to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority’s (ZIMRA) attention that there are some individuals who are either sending e-mails to our valued clients, or visiting clients’ business premises purporting to be ZIMRA officials. Some clients have received e-mails for ‘tax invoices’ for outstanding payments, purporting to be from what the fraudsters term ‘ZIMRA’s Tax Credit Management Office’ and asking the clients arrange for payment.
In other cases, clients have been approached by these fraudsters who request for business records, after which they are presented with fictitious bills.
Please be advised that;
ZIMRA officers do not collect cash from clients.
Any payments for taxes and customs duties should NOT be done into personal bank accounts but into the ZIMRA Commissioner General accounts held by banks in the country. Clients can verify with respective banks, or ZIMRA offices, the correct account details for making ZIMRA payments.
Clients who receive e-mails purporting to be from ZIMRA can also verify the status of their accounts using the ZIMRA electronic services platform (http://efiling.zimra.co.zw), or visit their nearest ZIMRA office for assistance.
When ZIMRA officials are carrying out compliance checks and audits, they always move in teams and carry on them their identity cards and will be putting on the ZIMRA uniform. Clients are urged to confirm the identities of individuals who visit their business premises claiming to be from ZIMRA.
If you are approached by individuals claiming to be ZIMRA officers, you can verify their identities by calling Regional Managers using the contact details given below;
