Sometimes science takes you to unexpected places… including airport security with a cooler box full of live insects for your dissertation research. 🐛✈️
Walking through customs and airports with permits, licenses, and official paperwork in hand was one thing ,but explaining to customs officers and flight attendants that the container beside me was carrying live insects for scientific research was another story entirely. The mixture of confusion, curiosity, shock, and laughter on people’s faces is something I will never forget.
It reminded me how normal the world we work in can become to us, while sounding completely unusual to everyone else. In agriculture and crop protection, these organisms represent research, innovation, and sustainable farming solutions. Outside our field… they are simply “bugs on a plane.” 😂
One of the funniest yet most memorable moments from my MSc journey so far ,and a reminder that science often lives far outside the boundaries of what people consider ordinary.
