Pray, Plan & Pursue .

Dear Church leaders

As the year 2024 is coming to an end, may I take the opportunity to remind you that you need to strike a balance between payer and planning. Churches that are interested in growth are not exempt from planning. Useful strategies do not just fall out of the sky. They are a product of a lot of discussions, reflection and hard work.

As a church, whatever you are planning to achieve in 2025 must be backed by prayer and action.
Whatever you are praying for in 2025 must be backed by plan and action.

If you are in the serious business of advancing God's Kingdom, gone are the days of gathering on the 31st of December to pray for themes of the year which are not backed by strategic plans. Such themes are just but empty and vague statements which will lead to another frustration at the end of the coming year. Let's gather either to pray for what we have already planned or praying for guidance in what we are going to plan after praying. A great New Zealand statesman, Mark Patterson
said that “Planning without praying is a waste of energy. Praying without planning is a waste of time.”

To this end, SCALT will be holding Free Strategic Planning workshops to equip church leaders with the necessary planning skills. Get in touch with the admin on 0775802680/0719802680.

Understanding Mission and Vision

While often used interchangeably, mission and vision serve distinct purposes.

Mission: The Why

An organization's mission is its core purpose—why it exists. It is the fixed, core reason for existence In the church, our Founder's mission is clear: make disciples (Matthew 28:19). This eternal purpose transcends temporal activities.

Vision: The Where

A vision, on the other hand, defines where the organization is headed.

Types of Vision

1. Ultimate Vision (20+ years): Imagines long-term possibilities if we remain faithful to our mission. It is long-term, fuzzy, imagining the future.
2. Five-Year Vision: Answers the question, "Where will we be in five years if we continue pursuing our mission?" It is a more manageable, inspiring, tangible milestone.
3. One-Year Vision:
This vision should bring us closer to our five-year vision, and our five-year vision should align with our ultimate vision. It is specific and measurable.

Key Distinctions
- Mission remains constant; vision evolves.
- Mission defines purpose; vision defines direction.
