Mistakes People Make While Getting into Dairy Farming

1. Not Having a Master Plan.
Who starts a business without a clear business plan? Investing in an expert to design and document all procedures and activities will save you in the long run.

2. Failure to Profile Yourself.
Self-assess to determine if you have what it takes to operate a dairy farm. Consider your family's interests, your job, experience, knowledge, and abilities. Many inexperienced farmers overlook this step.

3. Wrong Order of Implementation.
Imagine stocking cows when fodder isn’t ready, silage isn’t prepared, or grass hasn’t grown. You need to follow the steps outlined in the master plan provided by an expert.

4. Relying Solely on Your Own Creativity.
Attempting to figure out how to run a dairy farm without expert help—designing the farm plan, structures, fodder production, and stocking cows—can lead to mistakes.

5. Not Following the Master Plan.
Avoid relying on your own knowledge and ideas, as this can result in costly errors. Always adhere to the master plan you invested in, and don’t let excitement cloud your judgment.

Selecting a good bull 🐂🐂

Having a good bull is a major accomplishment in cattle breeding. A good bull determines the direction of your herd. Many farmers are often misdirected when selecting a good bull for their herd and that often set them back and limit their farming capacity. Here are some of the few things to consider when selecting a bull for your herd🐂

📌Time to maturity and good size.
As a farmer knowing the amount of time it took a bull to attain its current size is very important. A bull that takes less time to attain the required size is the best. Its offspring will inherit the same genetics and mature and grow fast thus enhancing your production capacity.(Haungadi zvimhuru zvisingakuri)

📌Bull origin
Knowing the parents of the bull helps you determine its genetics. Good genetics ensure a good direction for your herd.

📌Wide face
A bull with a wider face is said to be more musculine and more importantly more intelligent. Yes intelligence maters even to cattle. An intelligent bull knows when to mate and how to keep itself in good condition. This ensures efficient breeding of your animals.

📌Broad chest
The broader the chest the greater the capacity of the bull to build more meat thus its offspring are most likely to be excellent meat masters.

📌Small belly
A good bull shouldn't have a big stomach as it affects its breeding capacity. A big belly disturbs a bull when mating hence success rate of mating is low.

📌Strong, wide back legs
Hind-legs are very important for good mating. For a bull to mate more often, it has to have the power to hold it up in the air for longer thus strong back legs are very important when selecting a bull.

📌Temperance
A good bull should be calm and dosile. A hostile bull is more likely to hurt itself thus expensive to manage.

📌Dominance
A good bull should set boundaries to other bulls. This shows high tostestorone levels thus likely to be more fertile hence not lazy to mate during mating session.

📌Testicular size
Indeed size of testicles is very important when selecting a bull. This shows the capability of a bull to produce more and quality s***ms hence producing more fit offspring. Breeding rate is optimum if bull produces enough s***m and more tostestorone is produced by the bull thus its always eager to mate when the cows are on hit.

🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂🐂
With these things to consider,a farmer is set to select an excellent bull for their herd. Factors like breed, color etc all depend on the current market. Some buyer prefer Borans to Brahman or Beefmaster to Tuli thus as a farmer, first know your market before selecting which breed to use. Also be aware of your environment as some breeds may be challenging to keep in certain areas. Some buyers also prefer white cattle to brown or mixed colors to black thus seeking information on the current market is very crucial‼️‼️
