ESIA UPDATES: GWANDA - BLANKET MINE 132KV TRANSMISSION LINE (32KM) ESIA STAKEHOLDERS' CONSULTATION
A public notice is hereby published in terms of Environment Management Act (CAP 20:27), S. I. 7 of 2007 and the African Development Bank (AfDB) Integrated Safeguards System (ISS) Operational Safeguard 1 guidelines and the World Bank's Environmental & Social Standard (ESS1 & ESS 10) that;
Caledonia Mining Corporation plc; an international gold mining company listed on the NYSE American, commissioned a consortium of Green Resources Compnay and SustiGlobal Consulting to conduct an Environmental and Social Impact Assesment (ESIA) for the proposed circa 32km of 132 kV transmission line; linking the Gwanda 132 kV ZETDC Substation in Ward 22 of Gwanda RDC to Blanket Mine. The line is espected to provide uninterrupted power to the expanding Blanket Mine mining operations.
The proposed line will traverse Ward 21 of Gwanda RDC, pass through Ward 10 under Gwanda Municipality, till it ends in Ward 21. The line will generally run in a south-eastern to north-western direction, parallel to both the Beitbridge–Gwanda Highway and the Gwanda–Blanket Mine Road. It will also pass along the western side of Cinderella Mine, Sablevale and, in some sections, occupy a corridor running parallel to the existing 33 kV line.
The project scope involves ; way-leave clearance, geo-tech surveys, construction of towers, installation powerlines and commissioning.
Interested and affected parties are requested to submit comments to the contact details provided below and following the above cited legal instruments and guidelines. Though stakeholder consultation process will be maintained throughout the life of the project, as stakeholders you are advised to submit your comments as the project progresses.
