Guidance for SMEs using ISO 9001 for quality management just released:

ISO’s essential guide for SME’s wishing to implement a quality management system (QMS) has just been updated, providing practical advice and concrete examples tailored specifically for small businesses.

ISO 9001:2015 for Small Enterprises has just been updated to align with the newly revised version of one of ISO’s most popular standards, ISO 9001, Quality management systems – Requirements, updated in 2015.

The handbook was written by a group of experts from ISO/TC 176/SC 2, the technical subcommittee that developed ISO 9001:2015, and features useful information on everything from how to get started right through to guidance for those who choose to seek certification. It includes practical advice on the different ways of approaching a quality management system (QMS) as well as detailed guidance on each element of ISO 9001:2015.

Nigel Croft, Chairman of ISO/TC 176/SC 2, said: “This handbook recognizes that small businesses have different needs and challenges compared to large organizations, with different ways of working and often with limited resources. This handbook offers tailored advice to help them implement a quality management system that can truly be useful, and help them to improve their overall business performance.”

“It includes a step-by-step guide to implementing a QMS, providing sector-specific examples for different types of small businesses, such as consultancies, manufacturers and distributors.”

ISO 9001:2015 for Small Enterprises – What to do? also provides a clear explanation of what a QMS is and how it can help organizations improve the quality of the work they do and the products and services they deliver, thereby improving the confidence of their customers and other stakeholders.

ISO 9001 is one of the world’s most widely used quality management system standards, with over one million organizations certified to it in over 170 countries around the world.

Offshore windfarms set to fly with new standard for their ports:

Offshore wind energy is a growing business, providing enormous potential to meet the world's energy needs. But with their structures based at sea, building them has always posed a number of challenges. Now those challenges can be significantly reduced with a new standard for ports and marine operations for offshore wind energy structures.

A relatively recent technology, the capability of offshore wind power is seemingly limitless, with the ability to meet Europe’s energy requirements seven times over*. While largely based in Europe, the development of offshore wind structures is expanding around the world, with China, Japan, the USA and other countries rapidly moving forward.

ISO’s new International Standard for the port and marine operations associated with offshore windfarms will help that development, improving the safety and accessibility of the sites.

ISO 29400:2015, Ships and marine technology – Offshore wind energy – Port and marine operations, provides comprehensive requirements and guidance for the planning and engineering of port and marine operations, encompassing all related documents and works necessary for the installation and maintenance of offshore windfarms.

This includes the design and analysis of the components, systems, equipment and procedures required to perform port and marine operations, as well as the methods or procedures developed to carry them out safely.

The standard is the lead of a series of six standards, developed by ISO technical committee ISO/TC 8, Ships and marine technology, whose secretariat is held by SAC, ISO’s member in China. It is aimed at achieving a high level of reliability in the planning and ex*****on of components and systems involved in the support and operations of offshore wind energy. These include supply chain information flow, personnel transfer systems and work and living conditions offshore.

Captain Charles H. Piersall, Chairman of ISO/TC 8 and a retired US naval officer with nearly 60 years of distinguished maritime career, said: “The objective of these standards is to ensure port and marine operations are carried out within defined safety and reliability levels, no matter where they are in the world, providing confidence but not hindering innovation.”

Dare to dream big - three innovators change the world with standards:

They are flying across oceans without fuel, giving ordinary people robotic super strength, and growing crops in the desert... In a new video series, three tell the story of how International Standards helped them reach new heights in their search for technologies that could transform the world we know today.

Solar Impulse – André Borschberg, pilot and co-founder

Nobody thought that one day we would fly airplanes powered only by the sun, but this is exactly what Solar Impulse has achieved, breaking record after flight record. Yet humanity’s greatest achievements are rarely the effort of one person. Standards offered a common language to turn this impossible dream into reality. “Without [standards] we would never have been able to understand each other,” says Borschberg. “The Wright brothers did not have the benefits of standards… If they would have them, I’m sure they could have done it quicker. And maybe they could have gone further. That is what we do today and that is the reason why we progress.”

Cyberdyne – Prof. Sankai, founder and CEO

A new generation of wearable robots can help people confined to wheelchairs to walk again. It can also give ordinary people super strength. But developing this technology had its challenges – how to ensure the product would be considered safe and be easily adopted. A new standard for personal care robots proved key, guiding these innovators in the right direction. “ISO is very important for promoting new designs,” says Prof. Sankai, “we couldn’t have done it without ISO”.

Netafim – Naty Barak, Chief Sustainability Officer

Food security. Water scarcity. Not enough arable land. These are some of the most pressing issues facing the developing world today. Naty Barak tells of the struggle of growing crops in the dessert… until they came up with a technology that made the most of scant water resources by irrigating the plant and not the soil – drop by drop. For Barak, “this will bring real revolution to the developing world,” moving it from subsistence farming to commercial farming. But to make drip irrigation easily available, standards are needed to ensure compatibility and optimum quality at low cost. “The developing world deserves to get the best, and the best is achieved if you follow the standards,” concludes Barak.

Building on past successes

Every new invention is built on a history of extraordinary human achievements, many of which are found today in ISO standards. At the forefront of innovation, they offer practical solutions to the challenges faced by many industries. By creating a solid base, a common language and an added layer of confidence, ISO standards let our greatest minds concentrate on what they do best – pushing the limits and taking us to new places.

PINK IS PROFIT - HOW TO INCREASE NET PROFIT USING KPI’s:

The biggest risk is not taking any risk... In a world that changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks. Strategy is about making choices, trade-offs; it's about deliberately choosing to be different. Hence QRQC consultants help in determining the essence of strategy that could set limits on what the organization is trying to accomplish.
Good management is the art of making problems so interesting and their solutions so constructive that everyone wants to get to work and deal with them. We help the organization to know what they want. This is central to acting on their intentions. When the organization knows what they want, they realize that all there is left then is time management. We guide the organization to manage their time in achieving their goals because they would be clearly aware what they're trying to achieve in their objectives. Hence management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success on the other hand leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall. We coach & guide the organization towards the path of profitability coming from effective productivity, efficiency, management, austerity, and the way to manage the business.
The highest levels of performance come to people who are centered, intuitive, creative, and reflective - people who know to see a problem as an opportunity. Hence, “Q” Renaissance Quality Consultants guide the organization to realize that business and investment spending are the true leading indicators of the economy and the stock market. If the organization want to know where the stock market is headed, they should forget about consumer spending and retail sales figure, rather look to business spending, price inflation, interest rates, and productivity gains. A good financial plan is a road map that shows the organization exactly how the choices they make today will affect their future.

Understanding your employee's perspective can go a long way towards increasing productivity and happiness. “QRQC” Consultants assists the organization to perceive human resources are like natural resources; they're often buried deep. We help the organization to go looking for them, since they're not just lying around on the surface. We impart the skill to create the circumstances where they show themselves. We recommend the
organization to recruit for attitude and train for skill.

ISO management system standards continue growth trend, according to ISO Survey:

The 2015 results of the ISO Survey have just been released, showing the number of certifications to ISO management system standards continues to rise worldwide.

According to the results of the survey, a total of 1 519 952 valid certificates were reported worldwide in 2015 across nine management system standards, compared to 1 476 504 the previous year – an increase of 3 %.

ISO’s most widely used management system standards, ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management, remain popular with 1 033 936 and 319 324 certificates respectively.

This year, the results include a new addition to the survey, ISO/IEC 2000-1:2011, Information technology – Service management – Part 1: Service management system requirements, which was added after recommendation by international accreditation and certification experts we consult annually.

The ISO Survey is an annual survey of valid certifications to our management system standards issued by accredited certification bodies worldwide. It is the most comprehensive overview of certifications to these standards currently available. ISO does not perform certification, therefore these results rely on the responses of some of the world’s largest certification bodies.

Two minutes of sun enough to power a year’s usage of humanity:

As only two minutes of the sun provide the world with one year’s energy needs of entire humanity, a day’s sun can do wonders, according to a senior official.

“Every two minutes, the energy reaching the earth from the sun is equivalent to the whole annual energy use of humanity. All the energy … the cars, lighting, and air conditioning of the world … in one year is equivalent to two minutes of the sun,” said Dr Lamya N. Fawwaz, vice-president for Institutional Advancement and Public Affairs at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MIST).
