Whispering Bell’s recent cyber investigations into man-in-the-middle fake invoice scams have revealed a growing trend in which hacked user accounts have been compromised through stolen credentials from third party websites. Hackers are increasingly aware that user credentials are often duplicated among their many accounts, exposing them to multiple fraud scenarios. To address this threat, Whispering Bell has been working with the “Have I been pwned?” freeware website to develop a free mobile app for iOS and Android users, which will scan contacts in mobile phone devices and highlight any users that have had their credentials compromised in previous mass data breaches. The app will help users to determine whether their confidential communications may be exposed.
