Looking back on my time in the technical team at West End Brewery brought back good memories.

Doing quality checks on Guinness Draught and pouring lots of pints was all part of the job.

Getting insights from a global perspective with fellow certified WSET b**r educator Emma Penny was a bonus.

C***r is a unique drink category.

Produced like w**e, packaged and sold like b**r, and judged similar to w**e with drinkability taken into consideration which is like b**r judging.

C***r awards exist to celebrate and reward quality across a diverse range of styles. When judges assess a c***r, they are not looking for their personal favourite. They are looking for quality.

Is it clean and fresh?
Is the acidity and sweetness in balance?
Are the flavours expressive and true to style?

The Australian C***r Awards is the biggest c***r competition in Australia. Entries are open until 11th September from any country.

The benefits of entering go well beyond medals. Blind judging by experienced tasters, objective feedback, benchmarking against the best in the country, and brand exposure.

This is what a day of competition judging actually looks like for the Sydney Royal B**r & C***r Awards.

Every sample goes through the same blind tasting process - appearance, aroma, then taste and mouthfeel. Detailed notes are recorded for every entry before the panel deliberates and reaches a consensus score and medal outcome together. Multiple panels each work through up to 50 samples a day to get through all the entries.

The final score and feedback goes back to every producer regardless of result. That is one of the most beneficial parts of entering awards.

Quality b**r and c***r, solid teamwork, and brilliant stewards and back of house team.

Bigger and better for Penny Red B**r Co. 🍺✨️

The new spot on McMurtrie Road in McLaren Vale opened a week ago. Spacious inside and out with cosy places to sit and enjoy b**rs and food.

An oasis of b**r in a desert of w**e. A quote originally used by Bootleg Brewery - the first one in Margaret River w**e region.
