Have we started accepting “order, tap, next” as good enough?

Because I don’t think great hospitality needs to be complicated.

A hello, eye contact, maybe a little warmth, then actually listening to the order. Making the customer feel like a person, not just a transaction.

The coffee and food can be beautiful, but if the service feels cold, that still becomes part of the experience.

And sometimes it’s the part that decides whether someone comes back.

Tell me I’m not alone in this? Are there still people out there that appreciate a little smile and maybe some cheeky banter when they order their coffee?

Some café advice sounds good until you actually look at the numbers.

You do not need to trade seven days a week just because you can. More opening hours can just mean more wages, more overheads and more pressure if those extra days are not profitable.

You also do not need Uber Eats if the margin does not stack up or if you don't have the systems in place to profitably manage take away orders. More orders are not automatically a good thing if the platform is making the kitchen busier without leaving enough profit behind.

And sometimes the person bringing in the most sales or making the best meals is still costing the business in other ways. If one high performer is damaging the culture, creating conflict or making good staff want to leave, keeping them can become far more expensive than replacing them.

The same goes for your menu. Bigger is not always better. More items usually mean more prep, more stock, more wastage and slower service.

The smartest move is often the one that makes the café simpler, more profitable and easier to run.

If you’re running the café all day, then doing payroll, invoices, supplier follow-ups and social media at night, this is for you.

I’ve just launched Hospitality Back Office, powered by The COO Hub.

It’s practical admin, operations and marketing support built specifically for cafés, restaurants and hospitality businesses.

Because the work still needs to get done.

🥂 It just doesn’t all need to be done by you.

From accounts admin and payroll prep to supplier support, menu updates, staff admin, Google updates and social scheduling, we can take the recurring back-office work off your plate.

There are three levels of support depending on how much help you need, from a few hours a month through to full back-end support.

Comment BACK OFFICE and I’ll send you the details.
