The Gulamon is more than a wooden dish or tray.It is a holding vessel. A carrying vessel. A vessel of life.

For our people, Gulamons carried the things that mattered most.

They carried Gunalay and other native grasses used for our original bread making practices. They carried bush fruits, seeds, roots and water. They were used in ceremony and smoking for cleansing and healing.

Our babies were held safely in Gulamons in their first months of life β€” close to their mothers, close to Country, close to belonging.

There are different forms of Gulamon. Some are carved from hard woods and some are made from bark. Each one made with purpose, care and cultural knowledge passed down through generations.

When I hold this Gulamon, I don’t just see an object.I see the strength, wisdom and resourcefulness of our Ancestors. I see connection. I see survival. I see culture still living.

Culture is living. Connection is medicine. Country is home. πŸ–€πŸ”₯🀎

The bravest people I know. β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ’›

Today I honour my Nan & Pop, proud survivors of the Stolen Generations whose strength, resilience and courage continue to inspire not only myself, but so many others.

I am forever proud of their advocacy, truth-telling and willingness to share their deeply personal stories of survival to educate future generations and create awareness of our history. Their voices carry strength, healing and hope.

Always was, always will be. ✊🏽

Gathaa First Nations Market is always the place of meeting special people

Hey 🀚🏾 Moreton Bay mob 🩡

To kick off Reconciliation Week, Gathaa First Nations Market is heading to Craftival at Redcliffe Library on Saturday 30 May.

We’re excited to be partnering with City of Moreton Bay for the very first time, bringing a curated GATHAA First Nations Market Hub to Craftival during Rec Week.

Featuring a small collective of First Nations artists, makers and creators, the space will showcase handmade goods including art, crafts, fashion, accessories, beauty and homewares.

Craftival is a one day community celebration of creativity featuring workshops, artist talks, handmade markets and family friendly activities across Redcliffe Library. Last year, the event attracted more than 2,000 visitors across the day.

Drop into the GATHAA Hub, come say hello, support First Nations business and connect with some deadly local creatives πŸ‘£

After sitting with this vision for a long time…
I finally get to share something very special with you all 🌾🀎

DHUWARR β€” Bread From Countryby Aunty Rosie Lang
A children’s story grounded in listening, connection, culture and the sharing of native grain knowledge through story.

This book follows Dhirri Dhirri as she gently leads the way through Country, teaching children about gunalay, gathering, winnowing, grinding stone, bread making and the importance of slowing down to listen deeply.

Our people are the original bread makers.Long before introduced flour came to this Country, our old people were harvesting, grinding and baking native grains with deep knowledge, patience and connection to Country.

Created with love for our children , families, schools and communities.

This is more than a book to me.It is memory. It is belonging. It is healing. It is Country speaking.

I still have more dreaming and creating to do with DHUWARR, but seeing it finally looking like a real book has filled my heart today 🀎

Original artwork by the incredibly talented Eleanore Binge.

More to come soon 🌾
