Yirrganydji Aboriginal Corporations are exploring opportunities to enhance natural values and boost the health of the Great Barrier Reef through community-led coastal restoration, stewardship and custodianship. This includes enhancing coral reef resilience and restoring coastal habitat and wetland for threatened, keystone and culturally significant species.

Acknowledgements to the Queensland Government Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation for supporting this project through the Reef Assist Traditional Owner Grant Program.

We also sincerely thank all the landholders, supporting partners, organisations, and Traditional owners involved in the project.

We will meet near the toilet block at the end of Cinderella Street towards the mouth of the Barron River.

This is for Clean Up Australia.

Yirrganydji Aboriginal Corporations is proud to have supported the Get Into Reef Conservation Program in collaboration with Citizens of the GBR and GBR Biology.

We wish to acknowledge and thank the support from the Kings Trust Australia and everyone involved.

We’re excited to announce that our first Get Into Reef Conservation programme has launched on the Great Barrier Reef!

First Nations peoples Tobias, Kobe, Kirsten, and Amber are undertaking this 7-week programme designed to foster knowledge sharing and cultural exchange between Traditional Owners, reef conservationists, and scientists.

The programme provides opportunities for young First Nations peoples to learns skills such as dive training, survey methodologies, and coral restoration across Yirrganydji and Gunggandji Sea Country on the Great Barrier Reef.

In 2018, Yirrganydji Aboriginal Corporations was engaged by Cairns Regional Council as part of the Embracing Our Stories Project - Cairns Indigenous Interpretative Signage Trail.

Through the project, Yirrganydji contributed to four (4) interpretative signs that were installed at Palm Cove, Trinity Beach, Smithfield Library, and Machans Beach.

The signs feature and showcase Yirrganydji cultural and historical information, art, design, and local stories.

In 2017, Yirrganydji Aboriginal Corporations collaborated with Citizens of the GBR and Artist, Brian Robinson, on the Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef Sculpture Project on the Cairns Esplanade. Through the project, Yirrganydji artists provided sting ray designs that were engraved into the pathway.
