🐢 What to do if you find a turtle on the road 🚗

🟢 Slow down: Be alert and slow your vehicle, especially after recent rain.

🟢 Move the turtle safely: If it's safe, move the turtle to the side of the road where it was heading towards, not back to where it came from.

🟢 Handling a live turtle:
To avoid being scratched, grab the turtle from the back of the shell, near its hips. Keep it away from your body.
Wear gloves or use a towel, as wild turtles may release a foul musk.

🟢 If the turtle is injured:
Do not attempt to treat it yourself.
Call a wildlife rescuer or an organization like Wildlife Victoria.
You can also take it to a vet who can contact a wildlife carer.

All credit to Benny from Snake Catcher Colac for capturing this incredible shot of a Lowland Copperhead after it was safely removed from netting and released back into suitable habitat today.

The Lowland Copperhead is one of Victoria’s most commonly encountered venomous snakes and is a species that deserves plenty of respect. While highly venomous, they generally prefer to avoid confrontation and play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Photos like this are a great reminder of just how beautiful our native wildlife is when given the chance to thrive. 🫶

🚨 Signs of a Snake Bite in Pets
• Sudden swelling
• Pain or yelping
• Puncture wounds
• Weakness or collapse
• Drooling or vomiting
• Trouble breathing

✅ What TO Do
✔ Stay calm and keep your pet as still as possible
✔ Carry them if you can — movement spreads venom faster
