Victoria will rank applicants for Subclass 190 and 491 state nomination using the new Victorian Points Test (VPT).

✅ Higher VPT scores improve competitiveness for invitations.

✅ Applicants in priority industries: Healthcare, Social Assistance, Education and Construction may have an additional advantage.

✅ Applicants from other eligible occupations can also be considered.

Important: The VPT is separate from the existing federal SkillSelect points test, which remains unchanged for Subclasses 189, 190 and 491.

🇦🇺 AUSTRALIA MIGRATION UPDATE | MAJOR POLICY CHANGES BEING DEBATED

Australia’s migration settings are becoming a major political issue, with the major parties proposing very different approaches to reducing Net Overseas Migration (NOM).

🔵 Labor
• Targeting NOM of approximately 245,000 this financial year
• Target of 225,000 in 2027–28
• Greater priority for applicants with skills needed in areas such as healthcare, construction, education and law enforcement
• Further restrictions around student visa pathways and visa hopping

🔷 Coalition
• Proposing to reduce NOM to approximately 100,000 a year for the first two years from 2028–29
• Significant proposed reductions to bridging and Temporary Graduate visas
• NOM would later increase to 130,000 and then 160,000

🟠 One Nation
• Proposing substantial reductions in temporary visa holders
• Student visa cap of 115,000 per year
• Graduate visa cap of 20,000 per year
• Proposed NOM ceiling of 130,000

🟢 Greens
• Do not support setting a specific Net Overseas Migration target.

⚠️ Important: These are political policy proposals and should not be confused with current Australian migration law. Migration settings can change as policies develop and legislation or regulations are introduced.

For advice about your Australian visa options and how migration changes may affect you, seek professional advice based on your individual circumstances.

🇦🇺 MAJOR AUSTRALIA IMMIGRATION UPDATE 2026
Australia has announced a new set of migration reforms affecting Skilled Migration, PR pathways, Student Visas, Graduate Visas, Visitor Visas & Working Holiday Visas.

🇦🇺 Skilled Migration & PRAustralia is updating skilled visa processing priorities, with greater focus on key sectors including:ConstructionHealthcareTeaching & EducationLaw Enforcement & DefenceAgriculture, Resources, Aquaculture & Fishing
Applicants already in Australia will receive higher processing priority than applicants applying from outside Australia for certain skilled visas.
🎓 Student VisaNew measures aim to reduce “visa hopping” and strengthen student visa integrity.
For most international students, family members will no longer be automatically attached to new student visas.Exceptions are expected for certain groups, including students from Pacific and ASEAN countries and students undertaking certain courses such as PhD programs. Families already in Australia will not be separated by this change.
✈️ Visitor VisaA new “No Further Stay” condition is being introduced for visitor visas, aimed at ensuring visitor visas remain for genuine short-term visits rather than being used as a pathway to remain in Australia through another visa.
🏖️ Working Holiday VisasChanges are planned for the Working Holiday visa, including a ballot system for certain second and third-year visas where regional work requirements apply.
The government also plans to stabilise processing times for eligible Working Holiday Maker applications.
📋 New Points TestAustralia is also reforming the skilled migration points test.
Under the announced changes, selected skills can receive an uplift, including housing and construction trades, which can be treated at a higher qualification level for points purposes.

📌 What does this mean for you?
Whether you are planning to study, work, visit, apply for PR or move to Australia, understanding the latest visa requirements and migration priorities is more important than ever.
