Congratulations to Arafura HOFO Ashton Tilley completing his Flight Instructor Rating with Design Feature and Single Engine Class Rating Training Endorsements!

This will now allow Ashton to conduct some of the company OPC’s and line checks to a higher standard. Despite popular belief you do not need to start out your instructing career as a Grade 3 like in the past. Now you can tailor your needs to suit your purpose and training environment. All courses I run can be tailored to your requirements and based on prior experience.

The cost of flight training can vary greatly and can be very overwhelming trying to process it all. Pay as you go versus bulk pay versus student loans. Larger schools may have higher administration costs versus smaller ones. Larger airports will attract higher airport fees than smaller ones. Newer aircraft versus older ones. And of course the price of fuel. All these factors affect the end price you are quoted. But ultimately remember that flight training is competency based and is not a set syllabus or number of hours.

Research options in your area and cheapest isn’t always the best!

Departing Milikapiti, or Snake Bay, on the northern coast of Melville Island in the Tiwi Islands.

A pretty spectacular place to watch disappear beneath the nose of a Cessna 441 Conquest II.

The Conquest II was Cessna’s first purpose-designed turboprop and was built to bridge the gap between its piston twins and business jets. Powered by a pair of Garrett TPE331 turboprops, the C441 is pressurised, has a service ceiling of 35,000 ft and, particularly in aircraft fitted with the later -10 engines, can cruise at around 300 knots. Range can extend beyond 2,000 nautical miles depending on configuration and operating conditions.

For an aircraft whose design dates back to the 1970s, the performance is still seriously impressive. Fast, efficient and with plenty of capability for operating into regional airfields, it’s a great aeroplane to fly.

Snake Bay sits around 105 km north of Darwin by air on Melville Island, with Milikapiti one of the main communities of the Tiwi Islands.

A big congratulations to Stacy Bolingbroke, who completed her Flight Instructor Rating with MEA and Instrument Rating Training Endorsements last week!

Stacy flies the Gulfstream G150 with CareFlight here in the Territory, conducting medical retrieval and patient transport operations.

As she moves into a training role, these new qualifications will complement the work she already does on the jet testing under a CASR 61.040 approval and paving the pathway towards conducting training.

It’s always great working with experienced pilots as they make the transition into training and begin passing that experience on to others.

Well done, Stacy, and congratulations on a great result!

RSAF F-15SG’s have joined their F-16C/D’s including the 2 seat variant and G550 Maritime Surveillance aircraft continuing exercises after Exercise Pitch Black out of Darwin.
