Federal Battery Rebate Expands to $7.2bn

The Federal Government has announced a major expansion of the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, increasing the budget from $2.3bn to $7.2bn over the next four years. Alongside this increase, the rebate structure will change to ensure the program lasts longer and remains accessible to as many Australians as possible.

For Sunshine Coast and Brisbane households looking to install a home battery, these updates will influence both the rebate amount you receive and the ideal system size for your home.

What’s Changing in the Federal Battery Rebate?

The increased funding is expected to support more than two million battery installations by 2030, doubling earlier forecasts. This rollout will add around 40 gigawatt hours of energy storage, helping stabilise the grid as more renewable energy is introduced.

However, from May 2026, the rebate will begin reducing every six months, rather than once per year, and at a more significant rate.

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program has officially launched — giving up to $3,000 in rebates to help one million Aussie homes install solar battery systems.

This isn’t just good news. It’s game-changing.

Just days after his reappointment, Energy Minister Chris Bowen confirmed the scheme will be fast-tracked — because battery storage is no longer a luxury… it’s essential.

At AHLEC Solar, we’ve helped thousands of Queenslanders take control of their energy bills with smart solar and battery solutions. We know the local grid, the weather, and how to design systems that actually work for Queensland homes and businesses.

Here’s why now is the time to act:
✔ The rebate removes the biggest hurdle — upfront cost
✔ Demand will spike fast — meaning delays in approvals and installs
✔ Some applications are already taking 60+ days to be approved
✔ The best way to avoid the queue? Get in early

Whether you're interested in the new Tesla Powerwall 3, Sigenergy’s Sigenstor, or trusted names like Sungrow or SolarEdge, we’ll guide you through every step.

Got rooftop solar? Today’s the time to turn off it off before Alfred hits.

Every system will have slightly different steps, so consult your manual or the installer’s shutdown procedures, which can usually be found at the inverter and/or on the main switchboard. However, as a guide, most will advise to turn off the inverter AC mains isolator, which is usually found in the meter box: it’s very important to turn the AC mains isolator off first, and then also to turn off the photovoltaic (PV) array DC isolator which is usually found next to the inverter.

⚠️ Even if the network is not operational and panels aren't supplying the home, solar systems can continue to generate direct current (DC) power

⚡NEVER climb onto the roof to check or touch the solar system or its components – if there’s any damage, the roof can be live

🔌Treat all solar panels and cables as though they’re live and dangerous

💦 Never touch inverters, switchboards or other electrical equipment if it’s wet, or if you’re standing in water

REVIEW OF THE WEEK ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Totally Amazing Service !!!

Andy and his team are amazing!! When Andy came to the house to discuss our solar needs, he had already been monitoring where the sun was on our roof for a few days. So he knew exactly where the best place was to install the solar panels. From start to finish they were very professional and only too happy to answer any questions we had. The customer and after-sales service is amazing and the best I have seen in a long time. We would highly recommend them to anyone l!!! Thank you so much.

REVIEW OF THE WEEK ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Customer service isn't dead while these guys are still in business

My off-grid system shut down on me and the original installer wanted nothing to do with it. Ahlec sorted out what I needed, and had it up and running again as quickly as could be expected. This included upgrading the system with more panels and putting in an SMA inverter system. It was all done, and up and running in two days. Brilliant!

They also sorted out the best way to charge my electric van without damaging the house batteries and set the whole thing up for me.
The whole experience was a real eye-opener, and they are a really great bunch of people to deal with. I can't recommend them enough.
