Shredding rubber is only the beginning.

Many recycling processes finish once an end-of-life tyre or conveyor belt has been shredded and ground into smaller pieces.

At RubberGem, we are working to take the material much further.

At our East Rockingham facility, recovered rubber can be processed through advanced devulcanisation technology. This changes the material so it can be blended, compounded and manufactured into new rubber products.

That is an important distinction.

Making rubber smaller is processing.
Transforming it into material that can be used to manufacture another product is creating a genuine next life.

For years, tyres and conveyor belts work some of the toughest jobs in Australian mining. But when they’re replaced, far too many are buried or left in stockpiles.

It doesn’t have to end that way.

How can you tell genuine rubber recycling from a good marketing story?

Many recyclers make impressive claims about what happens to the rubber they receive.

But unless you visit the facility and see the process for yourself, separating verified outcomes from marketing claims can be difficult.

One of the most important questions to ask is:
Does the recycler have the equipment to manufacture new products or do they only shred and grind rubber before sending it somewhere else?

There is a significant difference.

Shredding tyres or conveyor belting into smaller pieces is a processing step. It does not, by itself, prove that the material has been manufactured into a new product.

When assessing a recycling provider, look for evidence:
• Can they show where the material enters the facility?
• Can they demonstrate the complete processing pathway?
• Do they recover and separate the different materials?
• Do they have manufacturing equipment operating on site?
• Can they show you the finished products being made?
• Can they provide traceability and evidence of the final outcome?

RubberGem’s story began in 2001 with the repurposing of used conveyor belt. Twenty-five years later, that same principle remains central to our work: recover the material, reprocess it and create a more useful next pathway.

Over 25 years, RubberGem has recovered thousands of rolls of end-of-life conveyor belting from iron ore operations across the Pilbara.

Roll after roll. Load after load. Year after year.

Rather than being sent to landfill or left in long-term stockpiles, this material has been transported to RubberGem, processed and given a new working life.

Today, conveyor belting recovered from the mining industry is being transformed into durable new products, including Australian-made agricultural flooring designed to remain in service for another 20 years or more.

It is difficult to capture 25 years of material movement in a single photograph so we created this image to help visualize the scale.

Just imagine how much material has been diverted from disposal over that time, how much value has been recovered, and how many new products have been created from something that had reached the end of its original purpose.
