Normally, this would be a pretty straightforward concrete scanning job. However, there was a newly built wall right where we needed to scan, which suddenly made the job a lot harder.

They needed to install a new fire hose reel, but before you go coring holes through concrete slabs, you need to know what is in the slab first.

So they called us to come out and use GPR to find a clear spot for them to drill.

Luckily, I was still able to scan from both sides of the wall and get the result they needed.

If you need any concrete scanning done on your construction site, please try to get us out there before the walls go up.

NBN went out to connect this home to Fibre to the Premises, but despite digging around in the front yard looking for where the builder had left the end of the communications conduit, they still could not find it.

So we were called out to locate it.

This is actually a very common job for us. You would be surprised how often situations like this come up.

We pushed our locatable reel down the conduit and traced its location underground. The builder can now expose it, and then NBN can come back out and complete the connection.

If you have this sort of job that you need help with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I hate CAD.

Drawing up the underground services we locate onto CAD plans has always been one of the biggest bottlenecks in our business, so I built my own app to automate it.

This is the shortened 3-minute version of the full video I posted on YouTube.

🤯🤯🤯 wow, this works even better than I was expecting.
I can see this new GPS not only being popular with us locators, but also builders, plumbers, electricians, and anyone else who normally gets surveyors in to stake out points. You don’t need any experience at all to use this.

This is a section of the video that I have on YouTube that I made the other day when I was using the RS4 Pro for the first time.

My first use of the RS4 Pro on a job site, picking up the end point of a power cable, that, in the past I would never have been able to get with a GPS.

I've had a heap of messages about my new Emlid RS4 Pro. While I have made a full “first use” video and posted it to YouTube, I thought I might also clip up a shorter version and post it on here as well, so you can see it in action.

Now, those of you who are surveyors, or familiar with Emlid gear, will see a couple of little mistakes I make when picking up the data, but hey, it was my first use of it.

Since making this video, I have used the photo capture feature a couple of times on job sites, and oh yeah, I am very happy I got this girl.

When running a small business, you need to look for any efficiencies you can find, be it to save time or to save overheads.

You hear a lot of naysayers knock AI, but as a small business owner, I think it can be of great benefit. I use it every day for a range of things, not only in running my businesses but also at home as well.

One of the tasks I get ChatGPT's Agent mode to do is rename all the bills we get and to file them away in Google Drive.
It did take a bit of work to get the prompt right, and it doesn't always work flawlessly and it can be slow, but it does do it all on its own. I tell it to start, then minimise the window and go about the rest of my work, or go and cook dinner or whatever else I need to do, and then come back in a couple of hours, and it is normally all done.

And that is one less task we need to get done.

I don't know exactly what my stats are, but I reckon it's about 50/50 on where I think the service is going to go... vs where I actually find it going.
And mind you, that is with 20 years of locating experience behind me!
