🤯🤯🤯 wow, this works even better than I was expecting.
I can see this new GPS not only being popular with us locators, but also builders, plumbers, electricians, and anyone else who normally gets surveyors in to stake out points. You don’t need any experience at all to use this.

This is a section of the video that I have on YouTube that I made the other day when I was using the RS4 Pro for the first time.

My first use of the RS4 Pro on a job site, picking up the end point of a power cable, that, in the past I would never have been able to get with a GPS.

I've had a heap of messages about my new Emlid RS4 Pro. While I have made a full “first use” video and posted it to YouTube, I thought I might also clip up a shorter version and post it on here as well, so you can see it in action.

Now, those of you who are surveyors, or familiar with Emlid gear, will see a couple of little mistakes I make when picking up the data, but hey, it was my first use of it.

Since making this video, I have used the photo capture feature a couple of times on job sites, and oh yeah, I am very happy I got this girl.

When running a small business, you need to look for any efficiencies you can find, be it to save time or to save overheads.

You hear a lot of naysayers knock AI, but as a small business owner, I think it can be of great benefit. I use it every day for a range of things, not only in running my businesses but also at home as well.

One of the tasks I get ChatGPT's Agent mode to do is rename all the bills we get and to file them away in Google Drive.
It did take a bit of work to get the prompt right, and it doesn't always work flawlessly and it can be slow, but it does do it all on its own. I tell it to start, then minimise the window and go about the rest of my work, or go and cook dinner or whatever else I need to do, and then come back in a couple of hours, and it is normally all done.

And that is one less task we need to get done.

I don't know exactly what my stats are, but I reckon it's about 50/50 on where I think the service is going to go... vs where I actually find it going.
And mind you, that is with 20 years of locating experience behind me!

It was either playing dead and hoping I would not see it, or it actually is dead.
Regardless, it still gave me a bit of a fright.
And mind you, I had already walked over that area about five times.

Vivax live plug connector
Or as I call it, power point adaptor
Should every professional locator have one in their tool bag? No, you can certainly go about it locating electrical cables other ways. But it certainly comes in very handy.

The saying goes, “The harder you work, the luckier you get.”
Well, I reckon in this job, there should be a saying, the more experience you get, the luckier you get.
I was out trying to locate a water pipe and suspected it might be plastic because of the building’s age. Got a faint signal, not the best, so I decided to dig down and see what was there. Ended up finding a comms cable. Dug a bit more and found another cable that turned out to be the power. But I had a feeling there was something more, so I kept digging, and sure enough, there it was, the poly water pipe, right underneath the other two.
So yeah, I don’t know, is it luck or just experience? Probably a bit of both.

There seems to be a few online businesses telling customers they will give them underground service plans of the area if you pay them and then when you do pay, they simply do a FREE request and they then send those plans to the customer.
You do NOT need to pay to get underground cable and pipe plans, through the Before You Dig Australia system.
Everyone and anyone can do a FREE request for plans and you will get them 'generally' within a few minutes of requesting them.
And that is regardless if you get plans for them every day of the week or if this is your first time using their service.
The cost of living is high enough as it is at the moment, it's crazy to pay for things you can get for free.

I don’t know if the issue is inexperience, although you’d think even on your first day you’d still know better.
Maybe it’s a lack of accountability, where no one goes back to check the work.
Or maybe it’s just a lack of care, where the guys don’t take pride in what they’re doing, do the bare minimum, and take no responsibility for what they leave behind.
