A great night at the 2026 UDIA NSW Awards for Excellence ✨

We were very proud to see Sandhills Wetlands, Byron Bay recognised as a finalist in the Excellence in Social & Community Infrastructure category.

Delivered in partnership with Byron Shire Council, the project has transformed a former sand-mined site into an important environmental and community asset for Byron Bay, improving stormwater quality, flood resilience, biodiversity and public access. 🌿

Planit Directors Matt Plain, Ben Gohl and Luke Blandford attended the awards alongside Christopher Soulsby, Manager Assets and Major Projects at Byron Shire Council, to celebrate the project and the collaboration behind its delivery.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists on the night. We were incredibly proud to see Sandhills Wetlands recognised alongside so many outstanding projects from across the industry.

🏆 We're proud to announce that Sandhills Wetlands, Byron Bay has been named a Finalist in the 2026 UDIA NSW Awards for Excellence in the Excellence in Social & Community Infrastructure category.

Delivered in partnership with Byron Shire Council, the Sandhills Wetlands project has transformed a once degraded, sand-mined site into a thriving environmental and community asset in the heart of Byron Bay.

Since 2020, Planit Consulting has worked alongside Council to provide integrated multidisciplinary services across the planning, design and construction phases, including project management, environmental planning, environmental approvals, design management, tender support and superintendent services.

The completed wetlands now:
🔸 Improve stormwater quality before it reaches Clarkes Beach
🔸Strengthen flood resilience through increased flood storage
🔸Restore native habitat and support biodiversity
🔸Create an accessible public space with boardwalks, shared paths and seating
🔸Reflect strong collaboration with Arakwal representatives, the Tweed Byron Local Aboriginal Land Council and Crown Lands through Connecting with Country principles.

Being recognised as a UDIA NSW Awards finalist is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the collaborative effort of everyone involved in delivering this important project.

Congratulations to Byron Shire Council, our project partners and the entire Planit team. We look forward to celebrating with the other finalists at the Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner later this month.

Thinking about buying or developing a site on the Gold Coast? 🤔
Before you commit, it is worth understanding what the property can actually support.
Zoning, overlays, flooding, access, servicing and infrastructure requirements can all affect whether a site is suitable for your intended development.
Our latest blog breaks down some of the key planning checks to consider early, helping landowners, developers and project teams better understand the opportunities and constraints of a site.

Approval secured at Yamanto 🍃

A major residential approval has been secured for 285–313 Warwick Road, Yamanto.

The project includes 288 dwellings across a 14.77 hectare site, with Planit’s ecology team supporting the approval through detailed ecological assessment, Koala SDAP referral and rehabilitation planning.

The approval involved complex koala habitat considerations, environmental offset requirements and the rehabilitation of approximately 5.2 hectares of disturbed land within the site.

A great outcome for the client and a strong reflection of the ecology expertise within the Planit team.

New approval achieved with City of Gold Coast ✅

A boutique dental clinic is set to take shape along Ferry Road, Southport, bringing a high-end health care service into a well-established urban area.

Located within the Medium Density Residential zone, the proposal sits comfortably alongside the mix of existing uses along Ferry Road, while still responding to the surrounding residential context.

The two-storey design includes parking and services at ground level, with the dental clinic above, comprising three consulting rooms and supporting spaces. The project has been carefully planned to suit a more specialised, appointment-based model of care, helping manage demand on a constrained site.

Planit worked closely with Council, SARA (state-controlled road) and our client from the early pre-lodgement stage through to approval, managing the Material Change of Use (MCU) application throughout the process.
