Two trips to Parliament House in Canberra in the last three weeks. One fight — better healthcare for veterans.

I’m Trent from LAD Advocates, and it has been an absolute privilege and honour to stand alongside the Coalition of Veteran Voices in Canberra to fight for the removal of the $5,000 cap on allied health treatment for veterans.

This isn’t just about a dollar figure.

It’s about veterans being able to access the treatment they need, when they need it, with the freedom to choose the healthcare professionals they trust.

But we’re not stopping at scrapping the $5,000 cap.

We want to fix the system.

For far too long, DVA’s funding and fee structures have placed pressure on allied health professionals by failing to properly recognise the time, expertise and complexity involved in treating veterans.

If we want better outcomes for veterans, we need to make sure we have a healthcare system where quality allied health professionals can actually afford to provide that care.

That means addressing the low fees and underpayment of allied health providers by DVA, reducing unnecessary barriers and creating a system that works for both veterans and the professionals who treat them.

I’m proud to be part of this fight, proud to represent the veteran community, and proud to stand with other veteran voices who are willing to speak up and push for meaningful change.

This is bigger than LAD.

This is bigger than any one organisation.

It’s about fixing a system that veterans deserve to be proud of.

And we’re only getting started.

What is a manifest error

This is something that I don’t think many advocates or veterans use when a claim gets rejected.

A manifest error is an administrative law concept that you can use in situations where the DVA delegate has made an obvious clerical mistake or obvious error in their determination based on the evidence they had at the time.

If you find a manifest error, your rejected conditions can get overturned in days rather than going to the VRB and waiting months and months.
