For a long time I’ve been telling myself I should bring someone into my business.

But the story was always the same.
Not enough work to pass on yet.
Workflows not quite ready.
It would be easier if I just did it.

The last couple of weeks I tried something different.

And it reminded me that support doesn’t have to wait until everything is perfectly organised.

This was a small reminder for me.

A last-minute client request came in and I was already stretched. Normally I would just absorb it and make it work.

Instead, I reached out to someone I’ve worked with before and asked if they had capacity.

They stepped in immediately and delivered beautifully.

Sometimes asking for help isn’t the worst thing that can happen.

Capable founders often become the bottleneck without realising it.

Not because they’re doing something wrong.

But because the thinking, context and decisions in the business still live mostly in their head.

Early on that feels efficient.

Over time it creates friction.
People wait.
Progress slows.
And the business becomes dependent on one person’s attention.

Success in business is usually talked about in numbers.

Revenue. Growth. Clients.

This week it looked different for me.

I structured my week properly, projects were finished and time had been blocked for the work that mattered.

So closing my laptop at 3pm wasn’t the biggest deal.

Driving to pick up two of my favourite humans I realised I’m building this - slowly and a work in progress.

A business that allows space for moments like this. More of this please and thank you.

Naturally the first thing it told me when I tested it on my own business was…

I’m the bottleneck.

It then gave me a 30 day action plan to fix it.

AI is changing how many tasks in business get done.

But what also interests me is what it reveals about the work itself.

When drafting, summarising and organising become easier, it exposes something.

A lot of what we once called productivity was simply output.

The real leverage starts to shift toward thinking.

What problems are worth solving.
What work actually moves the business forward.
What can simply disappear.

AI doesn’t just change tools.

It also changes what good leadership in a business looks like.

A lot of businesses rely on the founder/ owner for operational detail without realising it.

Not because the team isn’t capable. But because the process has never been written down clearly enough for others to follow it confidently.

In this case, we simply recorded the owner completing tasks that were taking up a lot of their time.

Those recordings became written processes. The team could follow them. The outcome stayed consistent regardless of who completed the work.

And the owner no longer has to be the checkpoint for every step.

It’s often much simpler than people expect.
