Since surfing the Alley with its days of massive sweep, Odile wanted a Phantom with a bit more paddle power, but the performance of her regular Phantom.

A construction I have been wanting to try. Carbon twil deck on EPS, for better flex and better compression strength.
60mm carbon tape on the bottom, for flex and load-up, ending above the fins. This will keep the front of the board a little bit rigid, and getting the tail to flex a bit more. ..at least that is what I am thinking, we will see how it goes with the carbon on top!

I am excited to try this one out at home, on the points.

Charm 2+1

First one made in the Gold Coast from
Spot X In Coolangatta.
This is an updated 4 channel Charm 2+1.
It has slightly more rocker for more performance but is flat enough for speed and paddle.
New decals made from the legends at Rhema graphics.
Custom made for Mud bay surfer

Here are some of the channel bottoms from this year. From doing so many of these I got really efficient at shaping and glassing them.
As I move forward into a new adventure I’m looking forward to making them in Aus.

It’s with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to one of the coolest humans I’ve had the privilege to know. A true legend of the ocean.
I’ll never forget the first time I saw him. A lone figure way out to sea in 6–8 foot swell with a gale blowing from the southwest. While standing in the car park wondering who this lunatic was, there he was, bobbing in the chaos, drifting toward Muriwai, completely in his element. He came in grinning ear to ear, absolutely buzzing. That was Dermott. Fearless, free, and always frothing.
The memories are endless, and I know I’m not the only one. Anyone from Muriwai or who’s spent time around him knows the impact he had. He was such a soul of the place.
Rest easy out there my friend. You’ll live on every time the swell picks up and it will always remind us of you.

These last few boards have been incredibly rewarding to make. I’ve had the chance to explore a wide range of design elements — from refining rocker lines and foil transitions to experimenting with different rail profiles and bottom contours. Each board was an opportunity to dial in specific performance characteristics, whether it was drive down the line, tighter turning radii, or improved paddling efficiency.
There’s something fulfilling about matching a board’s design to a surfer’s style, local conditions, and wave type. That process — balancing hydrodynamics, flex patterns, volume distribution — is where the real craft lives for me.
To those I didn’t get the chance to build for, I appreciate your patience and understanding. And to everyone who’s ridden or appreciated one of my boards: thank you. Your feedback, stoke, and trust keep pushing me to go deeper into the design and shaping process every single time.
