This is our Co-founder, Jack, in his hometown of Brattvåg on the west coast of Norway recently. It's a long way from the sunny shores of Queensland, up in the north, where the sun shines for 20+ hours a day at this time of year, and where a nice summer day is like a freezing Gold Coast winter day.
So, how did Jack find his way to God Coast from this small town on the edge of fjords? Not long into his career, his department at Sony Ericsson Oslo was made redundant in a big corporate restructuring. In a suddenly flooded job market, the Norwegian government offered serious incentives to further your studies, especially to those who were willing to study abroad. So, with the promise of sunny, warm beaches, Jack moved to the Gold Coast to complete his postgraduate studies in IT at Bond University.
Here is where he met the other half of Fleks, Nikol. But it took them almost a decade to find their way back to the Gold Coast. Nikol moved to Sydney to pursue her design career in commercial design. Jack later joined Nikol in Sydney, where they married and had their first son. Eventually, with a small young family, the move back to the Gold Coast was a logical one. It's a classic migration story from the southern states, and there was no looking back.
The Gold Coast has definitely evolved from what it was 20 years ago, and the fact that it attracts talent from all over the world for the lifestyle is great, but now this city has so much more to offer as it continues to grow and diversify.
