A huge effort by the Tactical Research Unit team led by Dr Patrick Campbell. 70 studies met the eligibility criteria to inform this review on incidence and risk factors for stress fractures in military personnel (both recruits and serving personnel).

Stress fractures are a major force preservation risk in military organisations. Although incidence rates and risk factors have been widely examined, a synthesis of high-quality evidence has been lacking. This review aimed to synthesise findings from studies examining stress fracture incidence and ri...

The Tactical Research Unit Bond University turns 10 and what a ride. The infographic shows just some of the stats and the pictures some of the fun. Built on a capability of just 1.2 FTE (3 x 0.4 FTE) the work by the TRU has led to changes in training approaches and policies, equipment design, and veteran care. BUT all this could not have been done without a lot of support. While there is a long list, thanks are definitely due to Professor Rodney Pope who was a cofounder of unit. Professor Helen Chenery who threw her full support behind our concept from the start and Professor Nick Zwar who has supported and guided the TRU's growth. To Professor Wayne Hing for the quiet guidance and mentorship and Professor Suzanne Gough for unwavering support and championing our cause. To Tanya Forbes who all our PhD students credit for their sanity and Peter Marendy who we credit for ours. Then comes our 250+ collaborators, foremost amongst the group are Dr Jay Dawes, Dr Robert Lockie, and Dr Filip Kukic. To the end users who got us started and kept pushing us to help their agencies Mick Stierli, Shane Irving, Richard Gorey, Charlie Kornhauser, Ryan Holmes, Jason Semple, Ben Hinton. To industry giants who fostered innovation and collaboration, most notably Australian Defence Apparel and LEGEAR Australia. To the NSCA for fostering learning in a tactical space. Finally, to the team Rob Orr, Ben Schram, Elisa Canetti and Lizzie Marsh (Cooper) for the late nights, early mornings, and the copious burgers.

A Tactical Research Unit output with some great collaborators: Rob Orr, Ben Schram, Elisa Canetti, Suzanne Gough, Kirsty Macdonald, Joe Dulla, Robert Lockie, Jay Dawes, Sam Blacker & Gemma Milligan. A look at some big challenges facing law enforcement in regard to current and future fitness and how Ability-Based Training might help mitigate some of these challenges.

Poor officer fitness can lead to decreased occupational task performance, injuries, increased absenteeism, and a variety of negative health sequalae further adding to the challenges of staffing law enforcement agencies. Optimizing the physical fitness for both serving officers and new recruits is cr...

What do you know about tactical load carriage?

From its history dating back to the Assyrian Army to modern conflicts.

From Military personnel to law enforcement officers, firefighters and search and rescue personnel.

From injury to performance impacts.

From initial conditioning through to rehabilitation.

If you work with any tactical organization then you need to understand this fundamental operational requirement.

Learn about 'Load Carriage across the Tactical Spectrum' here:

The Tactical Conditioning Optimisation Program (TACOPS) is comprised of eight professional development courses, designed to provide those in tactical occupations with a detailed understanding of the health and fitness needs of tactical personnel.

Article down range: Another article from the Tactical Research Unit Team. In this systematic review, led by Doctor of Physiotherapy students from Bond University, the injuries of custody officers were profiled. The upper extremity was the most commonly injured body part (26–30%), with musculoskeletal sprains and strains (30–60.2%) the most common types of injury. This profile is similar to those reported in general-duty police officers. As such, musculoskeletal conditioning, reconditioning, and fall prevention practices employed in law enforcement may serve as an initial approach to risk mitigation in this population.
