I have been working with animals for over 30 years in breeding and obedience and security training. Over 15 years ago I decided to choose a career path where I was working more with the community in the education of animals. As a result, I got a job with Council in the Animal Management section. In the 15 years in the Animal Management section I worked as an Animal Management Officer to start. I w
as involved with actioning complaints, issuing infringements, with the capture and impounding of all domestic animals and providing education to schools and the community. After 9 years in the role as an Animal Management Officer I transferred to an Animal Management Inspector. In this role, I was involved in the investigations of dog attacks, education and compliance with nuisance animal complaints, breeding and licenses. In the years, I was in Animal Management I completed numerous courses and study into the handling techniques and understanding of the behaviours of domestic animals. Through these studies I have learnt behavioural and training techniques in rehabilitation, training and assessing of animals. I have used this knowledge to help educate the community to assist with animal nuisance issues relating to community complaints. In my role as a Local Law Enforcement Officer not only did I enforce both Local and State legislation's but found it was my duty to educate the community into the why and how to abate nuisances so to provide a safer community. I found education to be a more effective tool in acquiring compliance than prosecution. Because of my techniques I found more people receptive to my directions and received many letters of appreciation for my assistance in helping them abate their animal’s behavioural problems. Whilst working for Animal Management I conducted many studies and assisted with procedures and processes in abating animal noise nuisances within the community. I helped create and conducted workshops and lectures with Council’s around Australia and New Zealand in helping to assist the community in abating noise nuisances, to which are the number one complaints all Council’s receive. I now find myself in wanting to further assist people and their animals, and therefore I have decided that my knowledge and education is best served assisting people in abating unwanted behaviours in their animals. Not only is my experience in the training of dogs, but I can assist in the education and abating of nuisances caused by all domestic animals from noise issues, containment issues, right through to other compliance issues under Queensland Local and State legislation's. I also am providing a consultation service to assist people with complaints made against their animals and action taken by Council in relation to the Queensland Local and State legislation's. As an experienced investigator that has worked for Council and understands the procedures and the interpretation of Queensland State and Local legislation's, I believe I can offer assistance and guidance that no lawyer, vet or animal behaviourist can offer. As an ex Local Laws Officer, I believe I am the first to offer my expertise in Queensland as a Consultant in this field and I bring with me the experience of understanding Councils’ investigation process.
