Recently, our crews completed a routine maintenance clean of two Gross Pollutant Traps (GPTs) on the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House.

While it was a routine maintenance job, the conditions were anything but routine. Working in the rain and navigating access with a smaller unit to reach the forecourt pits made the task more challenging, but the team got it done safely and efficiently.

In total, four tonnes of stormwater waste was removed from the network, helping stop litter, sediment and debris from being washed into Sydney Harbour’s fragile marine ecosystem and supporting the performance of critical drainage assets around one of Australia’s most recognised waterfront locations.

It’s a practical example of how consistent maintenance supports cleaner waterways, better-performing assets, and healthier environments.

200 metres installed in one continuous spiral lining shot. 🚧 No bypass pumping required.

PMA recently completed a rehabilitation project for Unitywater in Caloundra, installing 200 metres of spiral wound PVC liner through a DN700 wastewater main while the asset remained under active flow.

With real-time flow monitoring in place throughout the install, the team delivered the works without service interruption and without the need for bypass pumping. ✅

The installation was supported by a custom 660mm cage, manufactured in Australia by Ibtech, who worked alongside our crew on site.

A great outcome for the client and a strong example of trenchless rehabilitation delivering practical results in live wastewater environments. 👷

Routine maintenance is essential to keeping wastewater treatment assets operating safely and efficiently.

Our crew at Pipe Management Australia recently completed a significant cleaning program across a bioreactor digester and clarifier within a Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Delivered over two weeks, the works required careful planning, close coordination and the integration of heavy machinery, including a crane and man cage, to support safe and efficient delivery, with ten crew members, a leading hand and six combination vacuum trucks working together on site.

With assets like these, success is about more than completing the clean. It comes down to working methodically, maintaining safety at every stage, and aligning crews, equipment and site conditions to keep productivity moving without unnecessary disruption.

Projects like this reflect PMA’s practical experience in supporting routine maintenance across critical wastewater infrastructure.

Sewer pump stations play a vital role in moving wastewater around our cities. They work in combination with gravity to get wastewater from customers to treatment plants.

When these assets are not properly maintained, debris and build-up can increase the risk of blockages, create odour issues, place extra pressure on the network and, in more serious cases, contribute to pollution risks. That is why scheduled cleaning and maintenance matters.

🔧 Our crews were recently undertaking scheduled pump station maintenance for a valued client, helping keep critical wastewater assets clean, clear and operating reliably. It is practical, planned work that helps protect asset condition, reduce operational risk and support the reliable movement of wastewater through essential infrastructure.

This work is rarely seen, but it plays an important role in keeping communities running. It takes experienced crews, the right equipment and a strong understanding of wastewater infrastructure to complete these tasks safely and effectively.

✅ PMA is proud to support our clients with specialist wastewater maintenance services, including pump stations, sewer drains and treatment plant assets.

Our crews sometimes get to work in some of the best locations on the East Coast, but the focus is always on delivering the right outcome for the asset.

Recently, the team completed a culvert cleanout using PMA’s MicroTraxx unit, removing more than 40 tonnes of sand to open the culvert, to maintain tidal flow and prepare it for internal CCTV inspection.

The MicroTraxx is a remotely operated skid-steer loader that clears sand and debris from culverts without water or manned entry, making it ideal for tidal, water-restricted, environmentally sensitive, or confined space sites.

With experienced operators on site and the right technology for the job, the team was able to safely and efficiently clean the stormwater asset so the client could assess its internal condition and identify any issues requiring attention.

A great result for our valued client and another example of practical stormwater maintenance in action.

When CCTV inspection works need to happen in sensitive locations, timing matters.

During the recent school holiday period, our team carried out CCTV inspections across multiple locations, helping reduce disruption while still delivering the condition data needed to assess critical culvert assets.

At one site, PMA surveyed 80 metres of stormwater pipes as part of the broader inspection program. The survey helped build a better understanding of the asset’s current condition and provided useful information to support future maintenance decisions.

Projects like this highlight the value of targeted CCTV inspections in identifying hidden asset issues early, supporting informed maintenance decisions before defects develop into larger problems.

At PMA, our inspection services are designed to give clients a clearer understanding of asset condition, with practical reporting that helps guide the next steps.

At PMA, safety is one of our core values, and it shapes how we plan, communicate and deliver work every day.

🦺 Safety is built in from the start through training, site planning, traffic control, exclusion zones, PPE, equipment checks, and clear coordination across the crew.

What this looks like in practice:
• Teams taking the time to align before work starts.
• Controlled worksites with the right safeguards in place.
• Specialist equipment operated properly.
• People looking out for each other while delivering essential works in live environments.

👷For PMA, safe delivery is about more than compliance. It is about protecting our people, supporting our clients, respecting the communities we work in, and maintaining the standards we set for ourselves on every job.

On World Day for Safey & Health at Work, we recognise the crews, supervisors and support teams who put that value into action every day.🌏
