For International Women’s Week, our Director Maree Franettovich has reflected on the incredible women in her life and it all started with family – her sisters.

‘We all chose a slightly different life’s journey, and just knowing they were always there was also an important reference point for me.

‘There’s been a lot of love, laughter, music, fun and quiet (and sad) moments over the years, and I am forever grateful for their love and the role they played in shaping my life. Thank you.’

A huge shoutout to Principal Robert Harris and the staff Bowen State High School for the privilege of working with students to deliver Career Academy 2025 Grow Local connection formally supported by Abbot Point Operations Community Program.
The commitment of the greater staff team Bowen State High School is above and beyond to support Career Academy, a program which complements curriculum studies and provides practical career insights for students to boost their success. The students benefit from building greater confidence, personal development and being able to 'see' local and just what's possible for their future and all in the Bowen region.
And the highlight is the guest employer Q&A panels right there in the room providing students with information on entry level opportunities and also the many and varied career pathways. What are employers looking for and it's about getting started. These panels bring employment to life - thank you to all the panel participants from local business and enterprise.
Thank you all for championing community connection and this program which empowers young people.
The commitment of Bowen State High School greater team for ensuring students have relevant learning and personal growth experiences to be is leadership with purpose.

We are super proud to acknowledge Abbot Point Operations as THE MAJOR SPONSOR of Career Academy Grow Local Connection 2025 Bowen State High School led by our Director Maree Franettovich and colleague Dr Pamela Greet.

The formal support of Abbot Point Operations Community Program has enabled us to provide a unique regionally focussed high-quality and practically focussed career development program for local students highlighting the vast array of local opportunities whether via trade or uni pathways as well as entry level jobs. Reinforcing the grow local message a number of Abbot Point Operations employees shared their career journeys – many former BSHS students. And there was a consistent message reinforcing there’s more than one pathway to build your career.
And to give opportunities a go.

A distinguishing feature of Career Academy are the guest panels of local employers and we were overwhelmed with employers and their teams wanting to participate.

Joining us from Abbot Point Operations on the panels were Jake Collins, Brittany Mawhirt, Brittany Kane, Siobhan Bennett, Damon Leary. GM Damien Dederer also provided students with insights to making decisions about first steps.

Thank you with your support it helped students open their eyes to LOCAL, and take significant steps toward choices for their first career. We couldn’t do this without you Abbot Point Operations — thank you for investing in the region’s future employees, the importance of grow local and believing in young people and their potential!

Heels to high viz - our Director Maree Franettovich out and about starting with Mackay Hospital Foundation Giving Day, on-site client meeting, and facilitating Kalyan Youth Service Inc AGM. A vital service in our organisation assisting youth. The work of ESA Alpha Rho Mackay members in support of Kalyan and other service orgs in Mackay region is amazing.
