⚒️📉 There's a trend we're seeing across all mine sites right now: Operators are under pressure to hit meter targets, so bit changes are being pushed later and later.

Short term, it makes sense on paper. The shift looks great. Longer term, you're running blunt bits, your hole quality drops, your drill is working harder, and you're spending more on maintenance than you saved on bit changes.

The metric that actually matters is cost per metre, not metres per shift.

It's a mindset shift, but sites that adopt it usually see significant gains quickly.

We’re happy to share some numbers if you're curious what it looks like in practice. Discover more or get in touch via our website > http://www.icutterindustries.com?utm_campaign=meetedgar&utm_medium=social&utm_source=meetedgar.com

Mining ‘never more important’: Lacaze outlines vision as MCA chair.

The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) appointed Lynas Rare Earths chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director Amanda Lacaze as its new chair, keeping one of mining’s most prominent leaders at the forefront of the industry.

“I am very proud to be leading the MCA as our industry steps up to provide the minerals the world needs for growth, energy and strategic strength,” Lacaze said. “We have created a sophisticated, world-leading industry that provides the foundation of Australia’s economic resilience and the inputs our trading partners need,” she said. Lacaze highlighted the fact mining export earnings are forecast to reach $383 billion in 2025–26, with volumes expected to approach historic peaks over the next two years.

When the orebody dips, most work around it. We drilled straight through it!

Last month, our services manager, Dallas Morris, was on site working through a tricky dipping seam that was causing real headaches. The pattern couldn’t be drilled cleanly, and the options on the table were to terrace the pattern or bring in ~15m of fill. The site chose fill.

Historically, the site had been running tricones through this zone with pretty average results. Poor hole quality, inconsistent performance, and plenty of rework.

We made a couple of targeted tweaks to our PDC design. The result? Clean, straight boreholes across the entire pattern. No drama.

The feedback from the engineers and blast crew was extremely positive, and the blast itself went off seamlessly. 90% less redrills. No workarounds. No compromise.

It just goes to show that sometimes it’s not the ground, it’s the tool.

Anglo American has announced that it will sell its steelmaking coal mines in Australia to UK-based miner Dhilmar for up to $3.88 billion, exiting the sector and simplifying itself ahead of a planned merger with Canada’s Teck Resources.

London-listed Anglo is selling the mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, the world’s top steelmaking coal region, as part of its plan to divest or spin off non-core assets and cut debt ahead of completing the merger with Teck Resources that will form a copper-focused heavyweight.

🌀 Getting your rotation speed right with DTH drilling is not optional.

Whether you’re drilling an 89mm hole or a 300 mm hole, your rotation speed has a direct impact on productivity, tool life and hole quality.

Why this matters:
1. If you spin too fast, you wear out the bit and outer carbide buttons prematurely.
2. If you spin too slowly, you waste time and may not break the rock effectively.

The ideal RPM depends on rock hardness, hole diameter, hammer size and other drilling parameters.

On a recent site visit, setting the optimal rotation speed saw the bit life double.

📣💰 Australia’s mining industry has welcomed the 2026–27 Federal Budget, with the sector pointing to major investments in critical minerals, fuel security and streamlined project approvals as measures that will support future growth across the sector while continuing to deliver benefits for Australians.

The budget left existing mining tax and fuel tax credits unchanged, providing assurance for mining companies during a period of global economic uncertainty and rising operational costs.
