Garage door keeps reversing or won't close? Your safety sensors could be causing the problem.
Most automatic garage doors with photoelectric safety sensors have a pair fitted near the bottom of the opening. These sensors detect obstructions and signal the opener to stop or reverse the door. When dirt builds up, the sensors move out of alignment or the wiring becomes damaged, your garage door may refuse to close.
Here's what licensed tradies recommend checking first:
- Remove anything blocking the doorway or sensor beam.
- Gently wipe the sensor lenses according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Check if either sensor has been knocked out of position.
If your garage door still won't close, don't keep forcing it. Never disconnect or bypass the safety sensors to get it working.
A qualified garage door technician can help you choose between roller, sectional and sliding garage doors based on your garage opening, available space and preferred operating system.
